We get asked why we're not offering semlor this year, so I reached out to our Executive Director, Kristine Leander, to tell us the story:

"We ALL love semlor and being able to eat them is so Swedish! I’m sorry we are not offering them this year. It's a compromise we are putting up with as a result of the pandemic and the lack of a Swedish chef at the Swedish Club.

Historically, we always offered semlor at Friday lunchtimes from Jan 1 until Easter. We are not offering any lunches now because the pandemic has meant we have fewer guests for any of our food opportunities. We will eventually add lunches back in when the public is ready to come out in full force.

In the last year, during the pandemic and our "on and off" again dinner schedule, Chef Malin offered them as dinner-time dessert. It was the only dessert we offered. Malin has retired from the Swedish Club, and we have a new baker who is offering wonderful desserts, which differ each week. People are very happy with her desserts. However, she is not Swedish and we have no Swedish person to prepare semlor the right way.

Anyone interested in purchasing semlor can visit Byen Bakeri, located on Nickerson Street, near our building! They offer semlor year-round!"

Today went really well. It was SO nice! I actually looked better in the dress at this weight than I did before when I was slimmer somehow. Maybe because it now fits perfect instead of being a bit loose?!

Anyhow, the appointment went fast, my alterations are affordable and under budget and Madison is an amazing person.

Highly recommend Leiren Designs for bridal alterations and she makes amazing custom Norwegian bunads and custom gowns too. I’ll definitely be getting more items and alterations from her for photoshoots.

She even recommended a fantastic Norwegian bakery in Fremont, Byen Bakeri, that she used for her wedding Kransekake (Norwegian Wedding cake).

I went straight there after our appointment and ordered the cake and bought some kransekake rods (mini cakes) for sampling tonight.
