To the one who made me a mom… happiest of birthdays to my boy 😭💛

TEN YEARS OLD.
Double digits.
And your golden birthday ✨

I genuinely don’t know how we got here so fast.

Ten years ago today, they placed you in my arms and without even knowing it, you completely changed who I was. Before you, I had never been someone’s mama. And then there you were — this tiny little person who made my entire heart exist outside of my body.

You made me a mom. 🥹

And the thing nobody warns you about with your first baby is that you’re growing up right alongside them. Every first for you was a first for me, too. I was learning how to be your mom while you were learning how to be a little human. We’ve spent the last ten years figuring this life out together.

And now somehow… my baby is TEN.

There are days I would give absolutely anything to hold that tiny version of you one more time. To hear that little voice again. To pick you up without thinking about how tall you’ve gotten. To go back for just five minutes and tell that younger version of me, “It really does go this fast.” 😭

But as much as my heart aches for every version of you that I’ve already had to say goodbye to, I am SO proud of the boy standing in front of me today.

I love watching you become you.

You will grow taller than me. Your voice will change. You’ll need me differently. One day you’ll have a whole life of your own.

But there is one thing that will never, ever change:

You are the one who made me Mama.

My first baby
My first “Mama”
My first everything

Happy golden 10th birthday, my sweet boy

What an absolute privilege it has been to be your mama for an entire decade!!!!!

I would choose you, in every lifetime, every single time 😭💛

I’m almost at the one-year anniversary of the day I decided to open my heart a little wider to my community 😭💛

In August 2025, this wasn’t an official nonprofit. There was no 501(c)(3), no big organization, no fancy space. It was simply me trying to help my neighbors however I could.

Then my neighborhood became Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids became Kent County.
And in March 2026, we officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. 🥹

Now here we are, almost a year later, still operating out of my home, still growing, still figuring it out as we go, and still believing with my whole heart that people deserve to be fed and supported without judgment. 💛

And I know this is only the beginning.

One day, we’ll outgrow my house and have a space of our own. One day, we’ll be able to reach beyond Kent County and serve families all across West Michigan. 🌱

But I’ll never forget that it started right here with neighbors helping neighbors and one little idea that maybe we really could build a village. 😭🫶🏼

Almost ONE YEAR of The Salty Mama. 💛
Look how far this village has come 🤘🏼

I’m not gonna lie, posting myself like this makes me cringe a little every single time 😂🥲 My voice shakes, I overthink everything, and half the time I want to delete it before I even hit post.

But then I remember why I’m doing it. 🥹

Every follow, share, comment and interaction helps our little nonprofit reach more people. More people means more helpers, more donations, more groceries, more diapers, more formula, more fur baby supplies and ultimately more families in our community being cared for without judgment. 🫶🏼

So yes… I’ll keep embarrassing myself on the internet if it means growing this village. 😂🥹

If you’re seeing this, give us a follow. You never know who we might reach because you did. 💜💛

It takes a village and we’re building ours one person at a time. 🫶🏼

My voice was literally SHAKING making this 😭😂🫶🏼 Talking to a camera like this is so far outside of my comfort zone, but I’m trying to push myself because I want more people in Kent County to know that our little nonprofit is here. 💜

So… good morning Kent County! 🥹 Come unbox some Amazon donations with me that our amazing village sent for The Salty Mama It Takes a Village Project. A local nonprofit with 501c3 status.Every single package means more groceries, more supplies, more backpacks, and more ways we can show up for families in our community.

I might be awkward, I might stumble over my words, and apparently my voice might shake but I’m going to keep showing up.

Because this mission is bigger than my nerves 🥹🫶🏼

Thank you to every single person who has donated, shared a post, sent something from a wishlist, or simply cheered us on. Look what this village is building together. 💜

Caught a Meijer sale at the PERFECT time, so of course I had to grab what I could to help beef up our Stuff-a-Backpack for the Village supplies! 🥹🫶🏼

I’m working on opening up more of the packages that have come in from our amazing villagers so I can get everything together and see just how many backpacks we’re going to be able to completely stuff this year. Seeing all of these supplies piled up is already making my heart so happy. 😭

We are still very much accepting donations! Our Amazon wishlist will stay active through August 31st, so there’s still plenty of time to help us fill more backpacks and make back-to-school a little easier for families in our community 🫶🏼

As always, THANK YOU for continuing to help our little nonprofit grow and do more. Every sale we catch, every package that shows up, every dollar donated, and every single item purchased adds up. This is truly what it takes a village looks like!!!

Now let’s see how many backpacks this Village can stuff!

If you are sending specifically for this on cashapp/venmo please add the little 🎒 to it!

I thought I lost these seeds a few weeks ago… turns out they were just under our outdoor table casually growing themselves 😂🌱

Look at ALL those little sprouts!! I carefully separated them, transplanted them around the garden, and they took to their new homes beautifully🥹🫘💚

Apparently the garden said, “Don’t worry, I got it from here.” 😂

Nothing wasted around here even the seeds I accidentally misplace find a way🌱✨

Can you tell what kind of bean it is?

Just the basil harvested TODAY… and I literally harvested four days ago😭🙌🏼

But THIS is what I mean when I say it all connects🥹🫶🏼

Every bit of this basil will be turned into products for our farm stand. Those products get sold, and every dollar goes right back into our nonprofit and right back into our community.

🌱 Garden → 🫙 Farm stand → 💜 Nonprofit → 🏡 Our village.

That can look like groceries, diapers, formula, fur baby supplies, toys, experiences for kids, or helping a family through an emergency situation!!

So this isn’t just a giant pile of basil in my kitchen 😅 It’s something I grew from the ground that can eventually become a gallon of milk, a pack of diapers, food for someone’s pet, or a little bit of joy for a kid who needs it.

We grow what we can, make what we can, sell what we can and pour it right back into the village🥹🌿💜 we do it all without judgment. We just want people fed!

Had to get this done during my 2 year old’s nap or it simply was NOT getting done 😂🫠🌿

The garden was GIVING today 🥹🫶🏼 and now I get to start mapping out what I’m turning all of this into for the farm stand this fall herb salts, dried herbs, teas, seasonings and whatever else I can dream up 🌱

And this is the part I really want people to see: it all connects💜

We grow it → we harvest it → I turn it into something special → it goes out at the farm stand → every sale goes right back into our nonprofit → and that money helps us feed families in our village
Anyone living in Kent county Michigan is a villager 🫶🏼

So when you eventually grab a little jar of garden-grown goodness from our stand, you’re not just buying something homemade. You’re helping us put groceries into another family’s hands 🫶🏼

The garden feeds the farm stand, the farm stand feeds the nonprofit, and the nonprofit feeds the village🌿💜🥹 just that simple 💛

Something exciting is happening behind the scenes… 🤭💜

I can’t wait to show you what the Amazing artist Kennedy Paige has been creating for our nonprofit! It’s everything we’ve been dreaming up, and I am counting down the days until I can share it with you all!!!! 🥹✨
