My dear friend Shelley Lance was our pastry chef as we dreamed a future dessert list for the soon to be Dahlia Lounge 37 years ago. I’ve always had a simple dessert mind interested July peach cobblers, March rhubarb crisps, June strawberry shortcakes. Grandma Douglas’s devils food chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting was a delicious memory from my childhood.

From what I can remember my comment to Shelley was….I would like a classic home style dessert to anchor our new menu. It wasn’t a day later that from the pastry kitchen sprung a beautiful “grandma would be envious” cream pie featuring coconut in the crust, coconut milk in the pastry cream and finished with toasted coconut flakes and white chocolate shavings adorning every snowy whipped cream peak.
We sold out by 6pm our first night knowing instantly we had pushed a button that resonated with us and our customers. The Triple Coconut Cream Pie is now our history and future as we continue to make this little treasure daily.

Throughout the years our little pie that could has raised over a million dollars for charity and counting. Happy Pie day!
