We made it - it’s Bake Day, Packaging & Porch Pickup Time!

If you’ve been following my series, we are on Part III.

(If you missed Part I & Part II, head on over to my feed and give them a watch so you’re up to speed!)

Bake Days typically start at 4am. My oven preheats for about 80 minutes, and then I begin baking at about 5:30am.

These days, I’ll finish baking my last batch around 11am.

In my I can bake 12 (1,000 gram) loaves or 27 (350 gram) loaves in about 50 minutes.

Simply Bread used to have an affiliate program, but they no longer offer discount codes for their ovens via influencers 😢(but they typically have a great holiday season sale - chin up!)

I let the loaves cool for about 3-4 hours before packaging, sometimes even longer depending on the day. My husband helps after dinner if I don’t get to it before he’s home.

By Saturday morning, everything is packed and ready for pickup. My husband and I label & sort all of the items by name & pickup time, then load up the hutch about 45 minutes before the first window. People come EARLY and often while we are setting up!

All orders are prepaid via and customers can select a pickup time from a time range I have designated to streamline pickup (and manage the crowds!). Highly recommend their platform.

Active Sourdough Starter Signs šŸ‘‡šŸ»

Bubbles: A key indicator is consistent, various sized bubbling throughout the mixture.

Rise: The starter rises and doubles or triples in size at room temperature within 4-8 hours after feeding it.

Aroma: It has a pleasant, fermented aroma, akin to beer, yeast, or yogurt. More acidic started may have a slightly sharp/sour smell.

Texture: A spongy, airy, and bubbly texture once peaked.

Floats: The starter should float when dolloped into a glass of water (ie. Float Test)

Mother’s Day weekend in my cottage bakery.

52 loaves.
15 compound butters.
16+ dozen cookies.
3 starters.
1 very contented baker (with a mountain of dishes)

This week was very light on social media - honestly one of the lightest in a while!

Between prepping for this weekend’s sale, baseball events, various lessons, doctor appointments, zoo trip (baby elephant ), business paperwork, homeschool, book launch magazine interview, and a myriad of snuggles & story times, social media took its rightful place (in the back seat).

The days may seem long, but the years are SO short. Soaking up these sweet days as a young mom while they last. šŸ¤
