I came across this article and somehow, I felt like it spoke to me in a very personal way. There are a few reasons people sometimes don’t take home baking seriously, even though it can require just as much skill, time, and dedication as a professional bakery:

“It’s just a hobby.” People assume baking from home means you’re doing it casually, rather than running a real business. They don’t see the work behind the scenes. They see the finished cake, not the shopping, preparation, recipe testing, decorating, packaging, cleaning, customer communication, and delivery.
* No storefront = not a real bakery. Some people equate professionalism with having a commercial kitchen or physical shop.
* They underestimate the skill. Especially when something looks beautiful and effortless, people may not realize how much technique goes into making it.
* Home baking can be undervalued. Because the baker works from home, customers sometimes expect prices to be lower even when the ingredients, labor, equipment, and expertise are substantial.
* Passion gets mistaken for simplicity. When someone genuinely loves what they do, people may see the passion but overlook the professionalism behind it.

Don’t underestimate a baker just because the bakery is at home. Home baking can be MORE personal, not less professional.
