There is a reason why Peggy Lawton Baked goods taste so delicious: Authentic wholesome recipes never using artificial ingredients or preservatives. Sure we could use cheaper substitutes for our real chocolate, or “trade down” any of our imported baking ingredients but you would never get that rich, satisfying taste that makes Peggy Lawton an ongoing favorite. We could add preservatives to keep our
baked goods on the shelves for months, but we won’t… for two good reasons
1. Peggy Lawton must taste, feel and be fresh. History:
Our history started at The Sampler Restaurant in Dedham, Massachusetts, back in 1949. Peggy and Lawton made their luncheonette a success with their sincere friendship and incredible aromas of fresh cooking. But nothing drew more raves than Peggy’s home baked brownies. They were a daily sell-out. Lawton believed this success could be duplicated in other luncheonettes. So this belief became the beginning of a very unique business the first commercially available fudge brownies. Lawton and Peggy took the risk, sold The Sampler, and created Peggy Lawton Oven Confections (Peggy Lawton Kitchens, Inc.). Lawton Wolf felt this success could be built upon, so he rented a small space for $20.00 a month and installed an oven, a work bench, and a mixing machine. Quality, diligence, and a regard for the customers’ needs increased the demand for Peggy Lawton's delicious bakery products dramatically. Success required the continuous relocation and expansion of production facilities. By the early 1960's, Peggy Lawton Kitchens was established in its 5th location, busily baking tasty treats like the Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Cookies. Then in 1964, a fire destroyed the building which housed the entire operation. But God's hand, employee dedication, and customer loyalty prevailed. In record time, a new and better building was constructed on the same site, without losing a single employee or customer. This miracle is a testimony to the Peggy Lawton philosophy. Increased popularity and demand were followed by further expansion. Quality control, distribution and servicing systems were refined. And, what began as the modest production of four pans of fudge brownies per day with one employee has become hundreds of pans and many employees. In addition, Hundreds of thousands of cookies are baked each week at Peggy Lawton Kitchens. The Fudge Brownies, Choco-Chip, and Oatmeal Cookies, and squares contain no artificial flavors, colors, additives or preservatives. And, the quality products which had previously been enjoyed within the confines of one town are now sought-after and enjoyed throughout the Northeast. Today, all Peggy Lawton quality products are baked in gleaming silver ovens, wrapped in sparking cellophane, and are rapidly delivered to countless Peggy Lawton fans across the Northeast. A “Freshness Date” stamped on every item we bake is your assurance of real, not frozen, freshness. A lot has changed since 1949. Our methods have advanced and our company has grown: but our family philosophy, dedication, pride, and commitment to keep our baked goods fresh and delicious have never changed for generations. We insist on using our original recipes, created for those who appreciate a truly delicious treat. That is how it was in 1949. That is why we are still a favorite today.
