What a treat today! I escaped the kitchen with the Chief Taste Tester and his Godmother for a trip to the Northamptonshire Gluten Free Festival in the grounds of Chester House Estate (Tech Support had to stay behind to mark hundreds of exam papers).
We feasted on delicious fish and chips from Howe & Co Fish and Chips and absolutely divine steak bavette from Wilson's Street Food.
I went mad buying up Tenuta Marmorelle Italian pasta and pizza and Bonnie Yau's Food Products Ltd's homemade dipping sauces. I didn't expect to be offered a shot in the middle of the afternoon, but move over Bailey's, having sampled Cremaura Tequila Coffee Caramel Cream, our new favourite tipple!
And we came home with quite a haul of goodies from Big Bear Blondies, Bakeworks Co.,
Creative Nature Superfoods and Chappers Cheesecake.
It was lovely to chat to all the stall holders and incredible to be able to choose from EVERYTHING there, and not to have to worry about cross contamination.
Huge thanks to the organiser, Nicola Walpole, Coeliac Dietician for putting on such a fantastic event. If you've got a ticket for tomorrow, have a wonderful time!

Several lovely customers have put in an impassioned plea for the return of bagels next bake day... Frankly, in the heatwave last month, it was just too hot to be standing over a boiling vat of water to make them 🥵. Happily, with the drop in temperatures, I've been able to get boiling and baking again today, so there WILL be frozen bagels on the website to order from next Friday evening, for collection on Fri 26th. And there'll be a splendid batch of frozen garlic and herb mini baguettes, too (also missed last time and requested!) 😉🤗🥖🍞

As we reach the end of Coeliac Awareness Month, I'd like to say a massive thank you to two of my biggest cheerleaders: my dear mother and my wonderful husband. The parents and partners of people with coeliac disease have to deal with a lot: my mum spent many years worrying about her very poorly teenage daughter, not knowing how to get her better (I was finally diagnosed aged 33!) and has since thrown herself into adapting recipes to be safe for me to eat at family gatherings. And my Olivier has been unwavering in his support from the day we met, embracing eating gluten-free at home to avoid cross-contamination, spending hours researching gluten-free restaurants whenever planning a family trip, and encouraging me in my micro-bakery venture (as well as providing much practical tech support and conquering mountains of washing up!). Navigating coeliac disease is certainly a family effort: here's to my gang, who were out in force helping at the tea party for Coeliac UK earlier this month, and to all family members who do so much to support their loved ones who have this disease.

This time last weekend, I was frantically baking for the charity tea party for Coeliac UK (boy, am I glad it wasn’t as hot as it is today!), which I hosted as part of Coeliac UK's 64 Challenge. The youngest member of FFK was very keen that I follow this challenge to the letter by baking precisely 64 scones, 64 cupcakes and 64 biscuits, to highlight the fact that, while 1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease, 64% of this group are currently undiagnosed, often while suffering from debilitating symptoms. I believe I was in this 64% for 17 years between first showing symptoms and getting a diagnosis... which was certainly less than ideal.

Coeliac UK are doing great work raising awareness to try to drive down this percentage of undiagnosed people, while also supporting those diagnosed, and funding research initiatives for this disease. The tea party raised an incredible £700 for their work – thank you so much again to everyone who donated! If anyone would still like to donate, you can do so here: https://coeliacuk.enthuse.com/pf/katherine-restif-tea-party-horningsea-2026

Getting back to my 64 scones, 64 cupcakes and 64 biscuits… we won’t tell the 9 year old that scaling the batches to this precise number was beyond my maths skills and I may have baked a bit more than that… we had to have some spare for taste-testing, right?!

Wow, what a fantastic afternoon we had in Horningsea at the charity tea party for Coeliac UK today! The sun shone (against the odds), the children had fun racing round the village green, and much tea and cake was consumed. Thank you so much for all your very generous donations, and especially to those who so kindly contributed delicious gluten free bakes: Julia, Lottie, Heather, Neil, Borris, Prakash, and, of course, the incredible Belle's GF Bakes. Huge thanks, too, to my wonderful posse of helpers, without whom this event would not have been possible: Mary, Mim, Suzi, Hélène, Jayne, Emma, Helen, Tijana, Tom, Olivier and Benoît.
We raised over £600 today, which is absolutely amazing!
