Happy Birthday to my Great-Aunt Josie, who instilled so many beautiful values in me throughout my life. As she used to say, “from cradle to grave,” she always watched over me. She taught me lessons about compassion, strength, loyalty, and how to carry yourself with grace. She lived to be 103 years old, and in all those years, she remained my best friend—my rider. We worked side by side in the bakery for many years, creating memories I will cherish forever. I made many decorative birthday cakes for her that people still talk about today. She would take me on bus rides uptown, and those simple trips became some of the most meaningful moments of my life. She was, without question, an extraordinary woman.
For those who had the pleasure of knowing her or sharing in her company, you were truly blessed. Life changes, and time moves forward, but what remains are the memories we hold close and the love that shaped us. She always wanted the very best for me, and that is why I strive to do the same for my niece and nephew. I carry forward the compassion and guidance she showed me, honoring her legacy in the way I live and love. Life is what you make of it, and she taught me to make it meaningful.
