is a non-profit bakery that serves as a living business school to empower veterans, military spouses, and caregivers to find renewed purpose and community after serving our nation through an entrepreneurial fellowship program. Here's how our venture works: beginning in the Fall of 2014, Dog Tag Bakery will hire a cohort of wounded veterans and their spouses each year to complete a program that pro

vides both substantive work experience and a tailor made curriculum at the School of Continuing Studies at Georgetown University. At the same time, they will be pursuing a course of study that will offer training in entrepreneurship and other skills needed for the successful pursuit of a job or a small business venture of their own. The linchpin to our program is our bakery, located right in the heart of Georgetown just past the intersection of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. This 4,200 square-foot building will provide a retail location for the bakery and café, housing a production/baking area, a training-and-meeting room, and an office space from which to manage the business.

"The best advice I received during this program was: “Slow down enough to see yourself.”
As someone who has spent years serving others — veterans, justice‑impacted communities, women rebuilding their lives — I rarely pause long enough to evaluate my own growth. That advice reminded me that leadership isn’t just about output; it’s about awareness, alignment, and intentionality. It shifted how I approach my work and my personal development.
A major highlight this week was recognizing how Pinkie’s Lab naturally fits into the Learning Lab’s focus on integrating life and business. Pinkie’s Lab has become a space where health, identity, and entrepreneurship intersect — and seeing how others responded to the idea reminded me that our lived experiences are not separate from our business models. The conversations this week showed me that when we build from real life, our work becomes more substantial, more sustainable, and more human."
