Kal Marks have never made a record as personal as Wasteland Baby. Though Carl Shane, the band’s vocalist-guitarist, has made a career off of exploring blunt, uncomfortable truths through song, with Wasteland Baby, he steered Kal Marks toward something utterly new. Shane looked inward to stare down a fear that had long plagued him: What would it look like to have a child in a world that looks like this? “The album was driven by the fears I’m having about being a father,” says Shane. “The initial spark was this fear, and I thought that maybe if I could express it, I could overcome it.”

Jordan Caiola (CAI•OLA) is a songwriter/musician/producer based out of Philadelphia. Hefounded the indie rock band Mo Lowda & The Humble in 2010 and due to its intense touringschedule, the band became his main priority along with his side project NightSeason (founded2016)-an indie/electro-pop producer duo. Though he always felt writing folk songs was his true“wheelhouse”, it wasn’t until the nationwide lockdown in early 2020 that he finally put aside thetime to record a collection of those songs for his first solo album ‘Only Real When Shared’.Now, Caiola tours year-round with both Mo Lowda and his solo project. His second solo recordis set to be released in 2024.

Gain, feedback, and amplitude are essential to A Chaos Of Flowers, an album that builds on their ferocious 2023 album nature morte. Lyrically, the songs explore the most vulnerable of human experiences, how marginalizations manifest internally and externally, the inner struggles of isolation, and co-existence in nature. A Chaos of Flowers draws on catharsis and beauty as well as the quagmire of disorientation and othering. The album is a monument of simultaneous serenity and disquiet, a subtle maelstrom of internal life.
