Some really cool history walked through the doors of DareDevil Deli today. ❤️
Our good friend and regular customer Don Oriolo stopped in for lunch and brought along Johnny Farina of Santo & Johnny — the legendary instrumental duo behind the 1959 #1 hit “Sleep Walk.”
If you’ve spent any time inside the deli, you know we’ve always loved filling the place with pieces of history, music, aviation, pop culture, and local memories. Between the Sussex Air Show memorabilia, signed pieces, vintage items, and all the stories connected to them, the deli has slowly become its own little step back in time.
Today, we were honored to add another piece to that collection when Johnny signed a Santo & Johnny “Sleepwalk” print for the deli. We still have to find the perfect frame for it, but it’ll soon be hanging alongside another longtime favorite in the shop — our Felix the Cat Funko signed by Don himself years ago.
For those who may not know, Don Oriolo is an artist, musician, writer, and the longtime steward of the Felix the Cat legacy after his father, Joe Oriolo. He’s also worked on music publishing, artwork projects, Betty Boop-related projects, and owns Blue Arrow Farm in New York. Around here though, he’s also simply a friend of the deli and somebody we’re always happy to see walk through the door.
Moments like this are what make small local places special. One conversation turns into another, stories get shared, memories get passed around, and suddenly a regular lunch at the deli becomes something worth remembering.
Good music. Good memories. Good bagels. That’s the DareDevil way. 🙂
