One of the questions I hear most often is, “Why is there such a difference in pricing from one baker to another?”
The answer is simple… no two licensed home bakeries are the same.
Since 2022 the New Jersey’s Cottage Food Law made licensed home bakeries possible, our community has grown to include incredibly talented bakers, each with their own niche. Some bake as a hobby and choose not to factor all of their time into their pricing. Some have perfected a particular specialty. Others create desserts for customers who simply want something sweet without placing a high priority on what it actually looks like. And then there are bakeries, like mine, that have built a brand around custom artistry, premium ingredients, exceptional customer service, and a luxury experience from the first inquiry to the final bite.
None of those approaches are wrong. They simply serve different customers.
What does matter is choosing a baker who is operating legally. Look for someone who is properly licensed under New Jersey’s Cottage Food Law, has completed the required food safety certification, and conducts business with honesty, professionalism, and integrity. Those aren’t just boxes to check—they’re a promise that your baker has invested in doing things the right way.
The lowest price doesn’t always mean the best value, just as the highest price doesn’t automatically mean the best product. Find the baker whose style, quality, experience, and values align with what you’re looking for.
There is a licensed home baker for everyone, and that’s what makes our local baking community so special.
At To The Moon and Back Cupcakery, I believe every custom order should be as memorable as the celebration itself. From scratch recipes, premium ingredients, and attention to every last detail are what define my work—and for the clients who value that experience, it’s worth every bite.
