This was hands down one of the hardest cakes I've ever tried to create next to the tow truck cakes! Cars/trucks and people are SO hard to replicate with cake/fondant, but I did my best for Marcy and her son! Marcy's son loves his car and she wanted us to recreate his car in cake form! Marcy has supported and encouraged us from the very beginning of our cake decorating journey so of course we said yes! We are so grateful for our original supporters along the way! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Pam's Details: This was a 4 layer vanilla 1/4 sheet cake with vanilla buttercream filling and base.
Amanda's Details: First I needed to create a cakeboard with a lift in the center so the body of the vehicle was freestanding above the tires. I added a 4.5" by 4.5" wooden block covered in black fondant to the center of my square cakeboard. I measured a cakeboard in the correct sizing about 5.5" by 5.5" for the car to sit on and stacked the sheet cakes 4 high and used a serrated knife to roughly freehand the base shape of the vehicle. Once I was happy with the shape, I cut the board to fit the bottom edges of the cake snug and covered it entirely with white fondant. From there I used silicone fondant tools to lightly carve in the car's intricate details, divots and edges like the doors, the hood, the trunk, the windows etc. I used fondant to create the other details like the door handles, the trunk and spoiler, license plate, headlights, tires, etc. I used black fondant for the tinted windows, windshield, and tired. I handpainted the lights etc and then dry dusted the whole vehicle with matte dark gray edible dust to create dimension with shadows in the crevices and dips of the body for a more realistic look. The spoiler was difficult to keep freestanding because it was on the thinner side. I used floral wire through the center of the spoiler and attached it to either side of the trunk and placed cake decorating foam in the center to help it hold its shape. We added an edible image of the Friends characters for the birthday man! This was such a fun challenge and ww hope you love it! Thank you so much Marcy as always!
