2026 State of Black Food Augustus Jackson Joy Award

What an incredible honor.

I am deeply honored to be recognized as the 2026 State of Black Food Augustus Jackson Joy Award recipient.

This award celebrates a culinary professional who brings joy, passion, and positive energy to the culinary industry while creating memorable experiences through food, hospitality, and community impact. To be recognized for something that so beautifully reflects the heart behind my work means more than I can adequately put into words.

As a fifth-generation chef, food has always been woven into the fabric of who I am. Baking became my heart’s joy, and what began with a love for creating has grown into a purpose far greater than cake. It has allowed me to celebrate life’s most meaningful moments, serve my community, give back through organizations close to my heart, mentor and encourage others, and carry forward a culinary legacy that began generations before me.

Every cake has a story. Every celebration represents a memory someone trusted me to help create. And every opportunity to serve reminds me why I started.

I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for my family, my community, every client who has trusted my hands and creativity, and everyone who has supported Cake Palate Designs along this journey.

May we always remember that our gifts become even more meaningful when we use them to bring joy to others, open doors, pour into our communities, and leave something beautiful behind for the generations coming after us.
