Moss & Gather: for people who want to get away for a hot second, make something cool and meet a new peeps without the awkward “So…what do you do?” portion of the evening.

More than a few women came solo—and some were back for their second event—which might be one of my favorite compliments ever.

Back in May, we gathered at Post & Pour, ordered drinks and spent the evening making moss frames…and debating whether each one needed just one more piece of moss.

It did. The answer was always yes. 🌲

The world is a lot.

Sometimes you just need to build a much smaller one that fits inside a glass jar. Contained. Low drama. Beautiful from the outside and a little dirty inside.🌿

A little soil, a few plants and 45 surprisingly serious minutes deciding exactly where one rock belongs.

Living terrains at Brewmaster’s Taproom—every tiny world turned out completely different and each perfectly perfect. 🤘🏼🍄

For anyone who loves nature but has a complicated history with the keeping-it-alive portion…meet the PNW Forest Floor. 🤘🏼🌲

All the color and woodland goodness.
No watering schedule.
No special lighting.
No tiny plant quietly giving up on you from across the room.

Such a fun afternoon at Big Block Brewery in Redmond—and these turned out ridiculously good.. like crazy good. 🌲💗

“I’m not creative” may be the sentence I hear most often at the beginning of a workshop.

By the end, those same people are holding something completely original and asking when the next event is.

You don’t need to arrive with a vision, know what you’re doing or possess a previously undiscovered artistic gift.

You just have to start putting things together.

The creativity usually catches up.

First dates with a new venue can be a little nerve-racking.

Will anyone come?
Will the space work?
Will I end up hauling an entire forest through Seattle for six people? 😂

Turns out I had nothing to worry about. My very first workshop at Great Notion sold out, the room was packed and I had an absolute BLAST.

I think this is the beginning of an amazing relationship! 😘🌲🍺

Who woulda thunk it…? Turns out “Would you like to drink beer and play in the dirt?” is a question 32 adults will enthusiastically say yes to. 😂

What happens when you give a room full of people the same frame and access to what can only be described as an over the top woodland charcuterie board? 🏔️🌿🤣

Absolutely no one makes the same thing. Not even close….🤣

Tiny rivers, rocky trails, maximalist forests and a few projects with the kind of restraint I personally do not possess.

That’s exactly why I love these events. I bring the materials and a little guidance—you get to wander off and build whatever strange little world is living in your head.

This evening at Top Down Brewing was a good one fo sho! 🤘🏼🌲

The ridiculously awesome emotional stages of a paint night…

“Oh, this is going to be easy. I’ve got this!”….to “I have made a terrible terrible mistake.… After looking around the room they aggressively add another shade of blue, take another sip.… and begin playing around again.

Then after a few minutes, holding it at arm’s length proudly and loudly declaring, “WAIT…I’M AN ARTIST!!” 🎨

A fitting amount of actual and emotional Peaks & Valleys at Big Block Brewery in Black Diamond—but every single mountain made it safely to the other side and they all turned out ridiculously good. 🏔️🤘🏼

As it turns out, I’ve been having so much fun hosting workshops that I’ve failed to share almost three dozen of them here. 😂 So I’m starting the camera roll catch-up with this sunny evening at Brewmaster’s Taproom back in May. 🤘🏼

A highly scientific conclusion from this evening:

Adults need more opportunities to sit around a table, drink something cold and build tiny forests. 🌲🍺

Somewhere between emails, groceries and figuring out what everyone expects for dinner AGAIN, we stopped making things just because it feels good.

That may be my favorite part of these events—watching people put down their phones, get completely absorbed and slowly stop saying, “I’m not creative.”

Basically therapy—but you leave with rad art that you can be proud of.
