Did you know that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year? The loud booms, flashing lights, and increased activity can cause even the calmest pets to panic and run away.

The Hopkins County Humane Society is offering a Low-Cost Microchip Clinic to help ensure your pet has the best chance of being reunited with you if they become lost.

A microchip is a permanent form of identification that can help shelters and veterinary clinics quickly contact you if your pet is found.

Tips to Keep Your Pets Safe During Fireworks

🐾 Keep pets indoors. Bring outdoor pets inside well before festivities begin.

🐾 Create a safe space. A louder TV/Radio keep the lights on with their favorite bed, toys, and blankets.

🐾 Close curtains and turn on background noise. TVs, fans, and radios can help mask the sound of fireworks.

🐾 Exercise earlier in the day. A long walk or play session can help reduce anxiety and excess energy.

🐾 Ensure ID tags are current. Double-check that collars and tags have your current phone number.

🐾 Microchip your pet. Even pets with collars can lose them if they become frightened and escape.

🐾 Never take pets to fireworks displays. The noise and crowds can be overwhelming and dangerous.

🐾 Talk to your veterinarian. If your pet has severe anxiety, your veterinarian may recommend medications or calming strategies.

Every year, shelters across the country see an increase in stray animals following Independence Day celebrations. A simple microchip can make all the difference in getting your beloved pet back home where they belong.

🐾 Partners for Paws Program Update 🐾

The Hopkins County Humane Society is excited to share that our Partners for Paws Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Program has been an incredible success! Thanks to the support of our community, participating veterinary partners, and the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, dozens of pets have already received services that will help improve their health and reduce pet overpopulation throughout Hopkins County.

As we move toward the conclusion of the program, we still have:

🐶 60 Dog Vouchers Remaining
🐱 132 Cat Vouchers Remaining

Please remember that all vouchers must be issued no later than June 30, 2026, so we encourage eligible pet owners to apply as soon as possible while funding remains available.

We also want to make our participants aware of an important program update. Animal Medical Center (AMC) on Island Ford Road has made the decision to NO LONGER participate in the Partners for Paws Program. AMC will honor all appointments that have already been scheduled through the program, but they will not be accepting any new Partners for Paws appointments moving forward.

If you selected AMC as your participating clinic but have not yet scheduled your appointment, a member of our team will be contacting you to assist with transferring your voucher and scheduling services with one of our remaining participating clinics.

I just got off the phone with Lewis Ramsey @ the Food Safety Division in Frankfort. Since there has been some interest, I had to make sure I could offer for sale fresh-milled flour from whole wheat berries. He said it was allowed under the Cottage Food Laws.
As soon as I can get supplies, I will offer 500 GM bags, which is a little over one pound. More details to follow as I navigate this new project. If you want to find a good recipe for basic bread products, I recommend starting with https://grainsinsmallplaces.net/

Not a huge harvest but our 4 yr old McIntosh has made an apple!!🍏

Honey animal grahams made with freshly milled soft white wheat flour! Adding little Jesus to each box was our 5 yo grandson’s idea and I am certainly on board with it!
These will be available tomorrow while they last! $3.00 per box of 5 cookies.

Bring a clean, INTACT (no chips, cracks, etc) 8 oz canning jar this Saturday and receive $0.50 off any product. Add a ring (no dents, rust, etc) and get another $0.25!!! Limit one each per customer.
