🩷 This moment is heavy, and we want to be transparent with our community. While we wish we could close in solidarity today, we’re simply not in a position to do so as a small business.

We fully support the intention behind today’s strike and believe deeply in compassion, dignity, and protecting our immigrant communities. At the same time, we’re in a slower season, and for Dough Joy to continue working for our team, our customers, and our neighborhoods, things have to operate near perfectly right now. A one-day closure across three shops would have a very real impact on payroll, rent, and our ability to support the people who show up every day to make this place what it is.

So today, we’ll remain open so we can pay our team, keep our spaces warm and welcoming, and continue serving our community.

✨ Dough Joy started because I wanted to make something that was different! Not just donuts, but the space itself, our culture, and our customer experience.

🍩 Yes we make great donuts (22 everyday to be exact!) but they were never the ‘hole’ point. Our team, the energy in the room, the music, the colors, and the way you, our customers, are treated from the moment you walk in.

😋 I also wanted Dough Joy to be a place more people could enjoy without thinking twice, which is why everything’s made without eggs, dairy, or nuts, with gluten-free options too (dm for details, as we take many precautions for those with celiac!). Add in a full coffee bar with locally roasted beans from and a space designed to be fun and welcoming, and it becomes more than just a donut shop.

So many people ask me “why donuts?”

🍩 We didn’t start making donuts because we had some big food background, and TBH, we didn’t even know how to make donuts! We started because it felt creative, fun, and honestly… doable. Donuts felt like a simple base with endless room to play. We weren’t trying to reinvent anything, but focus on what we loved about donuts, and make them even better. We wanted to make something people got excited about and could come back to again and again.

✨ It didn’t take long to realize how difficult this journey would be. Dough is unpredictable. Termperatures vary in an instant. Frying is unforgiving. One small change can throw off an entire batch. What looked simple from the outside turned out to be one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. There were a lot of early mornings and late nights, failed batches, and moments where we had to ask ourselves if we were actually cut out for this.

🫶🏻 But somewhere in all of that, it clicked. The challenge became the point. Donuts stopped being just the product and started becoming the way we built something bigger - a team, a community, a place people wanted to be.
