I have seriously looked into milling my own flour for many reasons, but this sums it up….
Grain gathering 2026 at was a gathering of bakers, farmers, millers and more, for the purpose of elevating consciousness around whole grains, health, regeneration of and the importance of connection to land and the source of our foods.
And oh boy, did it elevate.
I’ve already known and felt the importance of sourcing from regional, regenerative farms, quality mills, and using whole grains as a staple.
But after experiencing what I did at this gathering, it feels like the consciousness expanded tenfold.
Some things I’ve had my knowledge expanded on:
🌾 the importance of whole grains in our diet, and the incredible metabolic diversity of wheat plants WSU Breadlab
🌾 the incredible passion that our grain farmers have for healing the land while growing the best quality and most nutritious grains Palouse Heritage Mercantile Small's Family Farm Chimacum Valley Grainery Bluebird Grain Farms | Organic Ancient Grains
🌾 the intricacies and nuances of milling, and how much skill goes into building the mills and milling quality flour New American Stone Mills
🌾 how diverse and complex baking is, and how deep the love for this art goes for so many of us Lindsey Bakes Bread | Sourdough Microbakery Tips James Bridges cesare.salemi Sourdough Geeks | Chef James Bridges DOAP®️ The Hand Cleaning Wonder Laila *unlock your baker’s intuition* Clumsy Crow Baking and it was SUCH a pleasure to meet you all in person
🌾 the important role microbakeries have in healing bread and creating community. It was an honor speaking on a panel on this topic.
🌾 and lastly, the incredible and mindblowing passion behind My Forno | Micro Bakery Deck Ovens My Forno, I couldn’t be more honored and proud to represent such a meaningful project in the baking space.
I can’t wait to get back to baking and implement all the things I’ve learned with a newly ignited passion.
Maybe see you next year, Grain Gathering 2027? 🌾🫶🏻
