Which is right for my family? What are the differences between virtual and in-person?
✔️ Well, obviously, where you and/or the teacher are located during the conference.
✔️ Also obviously, if you are meeting face to face or over zoom.
✔️ Again with the obvious, the dates.
✔️ Now, less obviously: whether you have a precisely scheduled meeting time is different with the options.
• For virtual conferences, you will receive an email at 8am on 10/12 with links to schedule with each teacher.
• For in-person, you just show up on the 22nd, find the teacher you wish to meet with and wait your turn to speak with the teacher.
✔️ Virtual conferences have a maximum length of time (6 minutes) allowed per teacher. Technically, in-person conferences are supposed to adhere to the same 6 minute timeframe, but parents in the past have been known to talk for a loooooooooong time (or a teacher could just keep talking).
✔️ The amount of privacy you have is also different with the two formats.
• In-person, you are generally in a large room with a teacher at each table and lines of other parents waiting around those tables.
• For virtual conferences, the teacher is typically in a room alone on the computer and you, the parent, have as much privacy as you choose

✔️ Do you have to do all one format? Nope. You can mix and match—schedule some for virtual and hope to meet with other in-person.
✔️ Must you do conferences? No, you do you. That said, it’s nice to hear someone say something good about your kid (if that’s the case). If things aren’t going so wonderfully, it’s good to know that with time to still right the ship.
✔️ What if none of those times work for you? Email the teacher(s) and see if you can connect with them another time.
