Fun fact: fresh cherries are no longer in season. And jarred maraschino cherries have stab wounds from being de-pitted. So my plan for edible luster dust on these cherries did not work out. Red sanding sugar for the win!

I had a customer order a cake for his uncle’s birthday who loves Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. I had no idea how I was going to combine all of these bands and the rock and roll theme. Then my mind wandered to tattoo sleeves and leather jackets. I’m so happy with how this one turned out! I just wish I had a spike mold, because silver spikes would have really elevated this cake.

Come on out to FoCo Reading Club’s Trivia Night at Zwei Brewing Co. tonight at 6! The theme is Romantic Comedies and I got to make these fun Rom Com Cupcakes for the grand prize! Chekhov's Gun Books (a mobile dark romance and fantasy bookstore) will be there, too!

I was a little too ambitious when I was planning this Hot Wheels cake. I originally planned to have the track wrap around the cake (perpendicular to the cake), so I made a fondant track 3 days early so it would have time to harden (pictured). And then the whole thing fell apart as I was sliding it over the top of the cake 🤦🏻‍♀️. After some choice words and a walk around my neighborhood to reset, I improvised. And that’s the beauty of being a cake lady. The cakes might not always turn out exactly how you want, but they still taste damn good.

Where my 90s girlies at? It’s a cake!! Making this cake brought back memories of sticker collections and trapper keepers and days before cell phones. Ah, the nostalgia.
