The bakery began with German-born Rudie Schaaf opening Gem City Pretzel on Warren Street in 1906, not long after he arrived in Dayton as a boy in 1885. dates to 1926 when his daughter, Emma, moved it there and renamed it. Smales' history twists into the city’s at every turn. A stand operated in the old downtown Arcade for years. Armloads of pretzels were ferried to neighborhood groceries and found their way into the hands of generations of school kids. Currently owned and operated by Emma Smales, Schaaf's great-great granddaughter.

Not Your Ordinary We**ie 🤝 Not Your Average Pretzel Bun.

Join us and our pals at the arcadedayton to get your hands on our very first ever pretzel bun collab with Bun Bun Hot Dog Stand Friday only! 🌭

Start at the pretzel stand and purchase your freshly baked pretzel bun then head out to Bun Bun to get your 1/4lb hot dog. Most importantly, load up your Pretzel Bun Bun with toppings like Hot Pepper Relish, Hot Dog Chili, Cheese Sauce, along with all of the classics.

Bun Bun Hot Dog Stand will be located at the North Arcade entrance located at 24 W. Third St., Dayton, OH.

It’s also FIRST FRIDAY tonight from 5PM - 8PM so you have lots of time to visit us the Arcade today!

If you guys show up for this collab today, who knows, maybe we’ll do it again!

🍎 OCTOBER PRETZEL FLAVOR OF THE MONTH 🍎

Cozy up with us at the Pretzel Stand this October and try our NEW Rosemary Gouda Pretzel with Apple Butter! We’re piling on the fall flavors this month and loading our traditional soft pretzels up with a dusting of rosemary, a sprinkle of salt, and freshly sliced gouda cheese. These pretzels are served with a side of Apple Butter from our Arcade neighbors Michael Allen !

Rosemary Gouda Pretzels are ONLY available at the Pretzel Stand in the arcadedayton! The Pretzel Stand is open W - F 10AM - 6PM + Sat 9AM - 3PM.

Pumpkin Freaks let your flags fly! 🎃

If you love all things pumpkin, you’re going to want to give our new Pumpkin Sugar & Spice Babies a try!

Our traditional Pretzel Babies are coated in butter then tossed in a cinnamon-sugar-pumpkin-spice blend and served with a side of vanilla icing for dipping.

Only available at the Pretzel Stand in the Dayton Arcade!

This is not our only October surprise though. Stay tuned for the October pretzel of the month and a fun collab for First Friday!

Where are our fellow mustard fans at? Alongside our hand-twisted pretzels, we proudly serve a variety of Woeber Mustard ! Just like Smales Pretzels, this family business makes their mustard right here in Ohio. Our mustard bar features yellow mustard, dijon mustard, sweet and spicy mustard, horseradish mustard, honey mustard, and hot and spicy mustard for your pretzel-dipping pleasure.

Fun Fact: we went through 21 gallons of mustard in our first month at the Arcade 😮
