Locations in Davis and Winters, CA. Trudy and Mo Kalisky are native New Yorkers who came to Davis as graduate students in 1970. It didn't take long for the entrepreneurial couple to realize that there wasn't a decent loaf of bread to be had in their new rural West Coast hometown. Mo began baking French-style baguettes at home, bringing a scientific background to bear upon age-old traditions of bre

ad-baking; and he continued to experiment with new formulas, processes and techniques. By the mid-1980s, the couple started delivering their artisan breads to Davis- and Sacramento-area restaurants and markets. Now in our 30th year, we still hand-mix, hand-cut and hand-form all our loaves. We create a wide variety of unique breads and a few outstanding sweet things, always using the freshest, all-natural ingredients. Our flours are milled in Yolo County from Sacramento Valley wheat, and we use other local ingredients and support local farmers whenever possible. Our sourdough starter is based on a pure strain of Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis sourced from the UC Davis Food Science and Technology department. Our birdseed loaf won a national award for best raisin bread. And if you like cheesecake, our recipe is straight from the Claremont Diner in Montclair, New Jersey — the same cheesecake on the menu today at New York's famous Carnegie Deli. Today, The Upper Crust Baking Co. remains one of Northern California’s premier artisanal bakeries, as well as one of its oldest. The time has come to try our new take on the classic Margherita pizza! While we’ve always served this style of pizza, we’ve taken the steps to enhance it with fresh mozzarella and thinly sliced Roma tomatoes, resulting in a more traditional pizza, like the one you would find in Napoli!

We invite you to give it a try so you can let us know what you think! Remember we have a variety of other pizzas for you all to enjoy, as well as our garden salad! You can always take it home or savor it on our patio, with a fresh glass of wine, cold local beer, and lemonade. You may also wish to indulge in a dessert prepared by our pastry team!

You are welcome and encouraged to place your order online (link in the bio), or by giving us a call or stopping in at the bakery. While we prefer ordering ahead, we have had availability to take walk-in orders!

Join us for Bistro Night, a special Joyful Dinner edition, on Friday, June 20th from 4:30-9pm. Guests will be the first to enjoy the new French-inspired menu, which will be available for the month of June. We will also be exclusively pouring wine from Great Bear Vineyards, who are members of the Slow Wine movement. 

Bistro Night is a full service dining experience, hosted on the patio at Upper Crust Baking in Davis. We do not take reservations, however we strive to cultivate a lively yet relaxed environment, full of seasonally locally sourced dishes and beverages!

The Joyful Dinner Series is a celebration from Slow Food USA that centers community driven dinners, honoring the vibrant and diverse food traditions of everyday people. Join us for Pizza Night on Wednesday

Each week we turn our 10-ton hearthstone deck oven up to 11 and turn out some amazing artisan pizzas. Each pizza is created by hand and served with a healthy dose of love.

Our pizzas are crafted in the same farm-to-oven tradition as our baked goods—we use only the best ingredients and toppings, with produce we like to source at the Davis Farmers Market.

We are excited to announce that you will be able to enjoy watching the World Cup at Upper Crust Baking—Davis.

With the majority of the matches taking place during our regular business hours, we will be setting up a large TV outside on the patio for you all to enjoy. For select matches, we will be preparing and serving specialty dishes and drinks!

It’s that time of the week again!!! Pizza Night at Upper Crust Baking, a Davis weekly tradition! 🍕✨

As we turn our sights to summer, we will be introducing new specials for you all to enjoy, like a new Margherita pizza, a fresh seasonal salad, and unique pizza specials! If you haven’t yet, be sure to try THE ATHENIAN which is only available through the month of May 🏛️

Our pizzas pair great with our house salad 🥗 and a glass of white wine 🍷 or a light crisp beer🍻. We offer local wines by Berryessa Gap and Great Bear, as well as local brews by Berryessa Brewing and Dunloe Brewing.

While we recommend ordering online before 2pm on Wednesdays (link in the bio), we have availability for on the spot orders as well!
