The storefront will be CLOSED this week! 🧁💕

After an incredibly busy weekend of cakes, weddings, deliveries, and celebrations, we're taking this week to catch up, reset the bakery, and focus on our upcoming custom orders.

There will be no regular pastry case or walk-in shopping this week, but we're still here behind the scenes working away! 🎂

If you have a custom order scheduled for pickup, don't worry—your order is still on our calendar and we'll be in touch as usual.

Thank you all so much for keeping us busy and continuing to trust The Cottage Cakery with your celebrations. We appreciate you more than you know! 💕

🎂 Cakes by Aiyana! ✨

Now it’s Aiyana’s turn in the spotlight! 💕

Aiyana brought her creativity and decorating skills to another beautiful batch of custom cakes last week, and we’re so excited to show them off! One of my favorite things about having multiple decorators at The Cottage Cakery is seeing each person’s own artistic style come through in their work.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Aiyana’s talent as part of our little Cakery team, and I love seeing the beautiful creations that leave our kitchen each week. 🥰🎂

Abby's Bakes from Last Week!

We’ve got another round of beautiful cakes to show off—these ones decorated by Abby! 🧁✨

It has been so much fun watching her decorating skills grow as she gets more opportunities to take on customer orders and put everything she’s been learning into practice. Each cake gives her another chance to build her confidence, practice new techniques, and continue developing her own decorating style.

We’re proud of the progress she’s making and excited to keep watching her grow! 💕

This is what $0 per hour looks like. 💕

Something people are often surprised to learn about me is that, right now, I don't take a paycheck from The Cottage Cakery.

I don't pay myself an hourly wage. I don't even keep the tips our wonderful customers leave—they're split between my two employees.

Every penny I can stays right here in the business.

It pays for butter, eggs, chocolate, boxes and cake boards. It pays my employees. It pays the rent, utilities, insurance, licenses, software, equipment, repairs, cleaning supplies, merchant fees and the million other little expenses that come with running a bakery.

And whatever is left gets reinvested into helping this little business grow.

I'm incredibly fortunate to have a husband with a wonderful career who is able to support our family while I build this dream. Without that, I simply wouldn't have the privilege of doing what I'm doing right now.

Of course, the goal isn't to work for $0 forever. 😂 Someday I want The Cottage Cakery to be successful enough that it can provide me with a regular paycheck, too.

But right now?

$0 an hour looks like early mornings and late nights.
It looks like flour-covered clothes and buttercream in my hair.
It looks like answering emails from the couch and lying awake thinking about tomorrow's orders.
It looks like grocery runs, dishes, bookkeeping, marketing, cleaning, baking, decorating and delivering.

It looks like pouring everything I have back into something I believe in.

So when you buy a $5 treat from the case, order a birthday cake, share one of our posts, recommend us to a friend, or trust us with your wedding cake, that support goes so much further than you probably realize.

You're helping me pay my employees. You're helping keep the lights on. You're helping buy the next case of butter. You're helping me build a business that I hope will be part of this community for many, many years.

And someday, hopefully, you'll even help me earn my first regular paycheck. 😂❤️

Until then, I'll be right here—working my little $0/hour job and building The Cottage Cakery one cake at a time. 🧁🏡

🌊⚡ Aiyana absolutely knocked this one out of the park! ⚡🌊

Check out this incredible Percy Jackson-inspired cake she created last week! 😍

This beauty is a 6-inch, FOUR-layer cake featuring an edible image wrap that completely transforms the outside of the cake. But the part that really takes it over the top? Those amazing rice paper water effects! 🌊 The translucent blue pieces give the cake so much movement and dimension—it looks like the water is crashing right out of the design!

Aiyana did such an amazing job bringing all of the elements together, and the finished cake turned out SO GOOD. 💙

📣 Storefront Update for Next Week! 🎂💍

You all have certainly been keeping us busy! 🥹💕 Our custom and wedding order calendar for next week is officially FULL!

With so many cakes and special orders heading out the door, we’re going to be putting all of our time (and oven space 😂) into making sure every order gets the attention it deserves.

Because of that, our storefront will be CLOSED Monday, August 31st through Thursday, September 3rd, and we will not have our pastry case stocked next week.

We are also no longer accepting additional orders for that week. Our next available date for custom order pickup or delivery is:
🎂 Tuesday, September 8th

We hate missing a week of seeing everyone in the Cottage, but being THIS busy with your celebrations is a pretty wonderful reason to close the case. 💕 We are incredibly grateful for every cake, wedding, birthday, and special occasion you trust us to be a part of.

🥓🍁 Bourbon Maple Bacon Cinnamon Rolls... Need we say more? 🤤

These beauties start with soft cinnamon rolls swirled with a rich brown sugar cinnamon filling, then we load them up with bourbon candied bacon—both inside AND on top because there's no such thing as too much bacon. 🥓

Finally, the whole thing gets a drizzle of sweet maple glaze to bring it all together. Sweet, salty, gooey, maple-y goodness in every bite.

If you're a maple bacon person, this one has your name written all over it. 😍🍁🥓

🌟 And now it’s Abby’s turn! 🌟

Abby had one customer cake on her decorating list last week, and she did an amazing job! 🎂 She got some great practice smoothing and coating the cake, then put her piping skills to work creating beautiful buttercream flowers. 🌸

She also spent some time decorating cakes for our bakery case, which gives her the perfect opportunity to practice new techniques, experiment, and continue building her confidence.

One of my favorite parts of having Abby as our intern has been watching her skills grow with every cake she touches. She’s come such a long way, and we’re so proud of the progress she continues to make! 💛

🎂✨ Now it’s Aiyana’s turn to show off! ✨🎂

Aiyana was busy at the decorating table last week, and she absolutely crushed it! 🙌 She created a **two-layer chocolate chip cookie cake with a soccer theme**, a super fun **golf-themed cake**, AND an incredible **Minecraft cake complete with two dozen matching cupcakes!** ⚽⛳⛏️

One of the things I love most about having Aiyana on our team is the creativity and talent she brings to every order. It’s been so exciting watching more and more beautiful cakes leave The Cottage! 💛
