My heart is heavy for our community today. I’m keeping all the teachers, students, families, and first responders affected by this devastating bus accident in my thoughts. Sending strength, comfort, and heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted. 🖤💛
Today, the families of 24 students and 5 employees received phone calls that no loved one ever wants to receive. Our hearts are shattered at the tragic loss of two young lives. Please continue to keep these families in your hearts. We continue to pray for the students and employees injured and everyone who was affected by today’s accident. The Kenwood Middle community will need our continued support, and we will share opportunities to assist families as details are confirmed.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County School District, First Baptist Church of Huntingdon, TN, and the numerous other law enforcement, emergency medical, and community organizations and volunteers from across the state who have provided tremendous support during this tragedy.
As we process this loss together, please know that the well-being of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. Counselors will be available to support anyone in our school community and across the district who may need someone to talk to in the days ahead and for as long as needed.
We share the message below from Dr. Miller, principal of Kenwood Middle School, to the Kenwood community after she returned from Huntingdon this evening:
Good Evening KMS Families,
Our school community experienced an unimaginable tragedy this morning. Students, faculty, and staff attending the Greenpower event in Jackson, TN, were involved in an accident while on the school bus. It is with great sadness that I share the news of the unexpected passing of two of our cherished students.
As we process this loss together, please know that the well-being of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. Counselors will be available Monday, March 30 to support anyone in our school community who may need someone to talk to in the days ahead and for as long as needed.
Details regarding the accident are still being investigated, and we have no further details at this time.
At this time, we will rely on families to determine how and when to communicate this at home. We recognize that many children may struggle with grief or uncertainty when learning about a loss. We encourage you to be attentive to your child’s emotional needs and to create space for them to express their thoughts or feelings. Our school counseling team are ready to assist and can also connect families with additional community resources if needed.
Please continue to pray with us for our students, families, faculty, and staff. I am grateful for the strength of our Kenwood community, and I trust we will all support each other during this difficult time.
