Hello friends,
We have an important and kind of sad update. We have made a difficult decision to close Wheatberry Bakeshop next month. Our last day of service at our little bakery will be on May 9th.
I know this might come as a little bit of a shock. And while there are a lot of factors that have contributed it's quite simple... we haven't been able to find a way for this little business to make any money. We're finally starting to hit the end of our rope and after years of financial loss, pursuing a bigger space isn't an option right now. We also want to end this on our terms and choosing this month has allowed us to give our team and vendors the notice they deserve.
This is most likely not a forever goodbye. I love making food and serving this city delicious things. But I'm really not clear on what the future holds so I won't have an answer if you ask "what's next" or "when will you reopen". Personally I'm sad about saying goodbye to my first business baby, but also very relieved for my life to not revolve around it so heavily.
I'm very thankful first and foremost for an incredible team who all have shown me so much grace and kindness. They have kept showing up to work ready to make the most of our final month together with smiles and great energy. If you are hiring and in need of some incredible people I will happily pass your information along!
I'm also very thankful for you, our customers, who have shown us so much love over the years. We will deeply miss seeing you day in and day out!
WAYS TO SUPPORT US
We will be open normal business hours (8-2PM Tues through Sat) for the next two weeks and would LOVE to see you! And on the 9th of May we will have one final day together.
We have a ton of retail inventory we have to work through so we are running a closing sale on all of it! Discounts will range but we have so many great pantry items, greeting cards and cute gifts. Also keep an eye out for a kitchen sale in the future. Everything's got to go!
Lastly, I would love if you could help support the team by tipping them well over the next two weeks. Our tip average is 9% of sales, getting it closer to 20% would be huge!
Thanks, we will miss you!!
