Sugarlane Cakes is an absolute passion for Sharlayne Cunningham. Raised on a farm, she became fixated on the works of Alison Holst at a young age. Copying Alison's techniques was the beginning of her training, to become the fantastic cake maker she is today. Her baking skills may be completely self-taught, but Sharlayne holds the National Standard 167 Food Handling Certificate. Plus she operates u

nder the NZ Food Control Plan, so you can trust that everything is safe and above board. She regularly researches new techniques, trials flavours and practices her skills, to ensure you are getting absolute value for money, and her cakes are fine examples of that dedication. Sharlayne is a whizz at time management. She is a mother of 4, and previously has managed the baking department of the Balclutha Night and Day, thus proving she is fully capable of getting the job done on time. A little note about my kitchen 💛
I run a registered home-based kitchen, and even though I don’t actually have to be registered, I chose to do it anyway.
Why? Because I know how important it is to feel confident about where your food is coming from.
Being registered means I follow proper food safety and hygiene practices, and my kitchen meets recognised standards. But more than that, it’s about giving you peace of mind. When you order from me, I want you to feel completely comfortable knowing your food is being prepared in a clean, safe, and well cared for space.
For me, it’s about going the extra mile—not because I have to, but because I genuinely care about the people I’m cooking for.
