Today, we turned to our wonderful residents for some very important advice… Do you kiss on the first date? And where did you go courting? 💋❤️

What followed was an absolutely fantastic afternoon filled with lots of laughter, cheeky answers, lively debates and some truly wonderful memories of loved ones and days gone by! 😂❤️

We are incredibly lucky to have several married couples within our home who have shared over 70 years of love, laughter and happiness together. 💍

Hearing their stories, remembering those special moments and sharing a few laughs together was simply wonderful. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best love advice comes from those who have truly lived it!

A wonderful afternoon of love, laughter, some cheeky memories and a little bit of romance! 🌹🥰

🌟 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH 🌟

We’re delighted to celebrate not one, but two truly deserving members of our Watford House team! 💙

🏆 July – Christine

A huge congratulations to Christine, our Employee of the Month for July! 🎉

Christine didn’t want a photo taken but that certainly doesn’t mean we should miss the opportunity to recognise the incredible contribution she makes to Watford House.

Christine is a real force on our night team. Having been part of Watford House for many years, she knows our residents incredibly well — their wishes, wants, routines and individual needs.

She is calm, collected, reliable and quietly gets on with what she does best: caring for our residents and making sure they are safe, comfortable and supported throughout the night.

Christine is also a wonderful reminder that some of the most important work happens behind the scenes. Our night team may not always be seen, but they are absolutely valued, respected and essential to the lifestyles and wellbeing of our residents.

A huge congratulations, Christine — very well deserved! 🌟

🏆 August – Ava

And then we have our wonderful Ava, our Employee of the Month for August! 🎉

Ava has recently stepped up into the role of Senior, following a couple of years working as part of our care day teams.

She has been an absolute star. ⭐

Ava brings real grace, understanding and enthusiasm to her role. She is eager to learn, always willing to listen and takes the time to understand both our residents and her colleagues — usually with a smile, a touch of wit and plenty of positivity!

She has quickly earned the respect of her colleagues and has played a huge part in bringing the team together. Her leadership, attitude and commitment have certainly not gone unnoticed.

A huge thank you and congratulations, Ava! 💙

Christine and Ava are both shining examples of the wonderful people we have here at Watford House. 🌟

📣 NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!

We’re now opening nominations for September’s Employee of the Month!

Has someone gone the extra mile?
Have they done something particularly special?
Have they supported a colleague, made a difference to a resident, or simply shown exceptional dedication day after day?

It could be anyone, from any department — care, kitchen, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, administration, nights or anywhere in between.

👉 Have your say and nominate someone you believe deserves to be our next Employee of the Month!

Let’s make sure the people who make Watford House such a special place get the recognition they deserve. 💙

Well done Christine and Ava — you’re both shining stars! 🌟

🌸 Flower Arranging 🌼
Residents enjoyed a lovely flower arranging session, creating their own beautiful displays using fresh flowers. This encouraged creativity, concentration and fine motor skills, while also providing an opportunity for residents to make personal choices about their arrangements.

There was a lovely social element too, with residents chatting over a cup of tea, sharing ideas and helping one another.

Most importantly, everyone enjoyed the sense of achievement and pride that came from creating something beautiful to brighten their home. 🌷☕️

✂️🎨 Create, Chat & Create Together 💬❤️

Our Create & Chat sessions are always a favourite, and this week it was all about decoupage!

There’s something lovely about sitting around the table together, choosing colours and pictures, cutting, sticking and watching each person’s ideas slowly come to life. What starts as a simple craft quickly turns into plenty of conversation, laughter and a bit of friendly helping each other along the way. 😊

So much more is happening than just making something. The cutting, placing and sticking helps encourage dexterity, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration, while working alongside others creates those all-important opportunities for conversation, connection and teamwork.

Of course, there’s the satisfaction of looking at what you’ve created at the end and thinking… “I made that!” ❤️

Another lovely afternoon of creativity, friendship and doing things together — exactly what our Create & Chat sessions are all about. 🌸✂️

“Rich in history, rich in stories, and a place we’re proud to call home” 🏡✨🦚✨

There’s something rather special about Watford House. Behind its beautiful period features lies a rich history, and this September, as part of Heritage Week, we’ll be sharing more of the stories that make our home so unique. 🏡📜

One of the treasures we have here is our collection of fabulously detailed stained-glass windows, each with its own story to tell.

Take this magnificent peacock for example… 🦚

Peacocks were once kept on the grounds of Watford House around the time the property was built, making this beautiful window more than just a piece of decoration — it’s a little glimpse into the life and history of the house all those years ago.

And the story continues today! We’re lucky enough to still have peacocks living just to the rear of the property on one of our neighbouring farms, and we visit them regularly. Their beauty and majestic presence are a wonderful reminder of the heritage that surrounds us.

Beautiful, majestic and full of character — just like Watford House itself. 💚

☀️🍦 We were celebrating the return of the sun… and what better way to do it than by boosting those calories! 😋

Our residents enjoyed some seriously indulgent ice-cream loaded milkshakes, complete with whipped cream and delicious sauce! 🍓🍌🍫🥛

But now comes the BIG question… 👀

🍓 Team Strawberry
OR
🍌🍫 Team Banana & Chocolate?

A Pop of Colour, A Boost of Joy at Watford House🌈

💅Clean, cared‑for nails = feeling good💜

Nail care isn’t just about looking nice.
It’s a wellbeing boost in so many ways:

🧼Gentle care — helps residents feel clean, refreshed and comfortable.

🎨Creative expression — choosing colours and styles gives a sense of individuality.

😊Purposeful activity — the process of caring for nails is calming, engaging and meaningful.

💖 Moments that matter
It’s these small acts of self‑care that create big moments of connection. Chatting while choosing colours, helping each other dry nails, sharing compliments and laughter.

💕Resident and carer moments like this remind us how important it is to feel looked after, valued and purpose in the world.

A massive, heartfelt well done to our wonderful Angela, one of our dedicated senior carers here at Watford House. 💙

Angela has spent several years caring for our residents with compassion, patience and genuine warmth. 🌟 A DAY OF IDEAS, INSPIRATION, LEARNING & NEW POSSIBILITIES👏

Matthew, our Activities Lead has returned from Pottersway House Care Home feeling energised, inspired, and full of fresh ideas for the future. Matthew joined Activity Leads from across the region including Darcy House Care Home, The Porterbrook Care Home, Amberley Care Home The Hazelwell Care Home alongside Michelle, our Regional Director and a session with the leads of Oomph, for a day dedicated to strengthening the lifestyle and daily experiences within all our homes.

💜 What is Oomph?💜
Oomph stands for “Our Organisation Makes People Happy” — and that’s exactly what they help us achieve. Their Meaningful Framework supports us in creating activities that are accessible, enjoyable and available throughout the day, giving every resident more opportunities to live an amazing, fulfilling life.

✨ Why today matters ✨️
We spent the day learning, sharing, and building structure around how we can make every moment count. The conversations were rich, the ideas were exciting and the passion in the room was truly inspiring.

All leads are returning to their homes with renewed purpose and a toolkit of new possibilities to help our residents thrive.
