W. Potts & Son New Mills

W. Potts & Son New Mills We are a family run bakery producing a wide range of speciality and traditional breads and cakes serving our community for over 120 years

Our family has been baking in New Mills for over 120 years. The shop is named after my great-grandfather Wilfrid and my grandfather Wilfrid Jnr being the 'son'. My parents Ian and Susan took the shop over from my fathers parents Wilfrid and Eveline and now run the family business with my sisters and myself. We pride ourselves on producing the finest quality breads and confectionary, trying new ide

as to keep ahead of the latest trends. We sell our goods in our traditional shop and also supply some local pubs with various breads. We have recently gone back into making celebration cakes using modern and traditional ideas. We are also able to cater for parties such as christenings, children's parties, office parties, funerals etc. We look forward to seeing you all soon.

I had to do another post (which I’m sure I’ll get into trouble for!!) but New Mills has its own hero’s in the town…..as you may know the Potts and Ryan family have both had to stare cancer in the eye in recent years and both Ian and Barbara got to ring the end of treatment bell at The Christie Hospital and are both thankfully doing well. Facing these experiences together gave us all the strength to get through and I will be forever grateful for the support we received. Michelle Ryan is an absolute hero….she runs marathons for charity to give back to help others while facing all sorts of challenges and pushes through it all. Last November we managed to pull off our crazy plan of a music night in aid of The Christie Charity and had the delights of support from local people in Impromptu choir and The Peak Pluckers who were all heroes that night helping us raise around £2500 which was unbelievable. The term Hero means something different to us all…it could be a family member, a friend, a stranger or even ourselves but we can all make a difference by being kind and helping others and in doing that we are heroes together. For me all those working at The Christie Hospital were heroes, as was the GP who caught my dads cancer in time and the consultant at Stepping Hill all who I will be eternally grateful for 🧡 So remember we all can and do make a difference in the world 🧡

When we talk about heroes we probably think of famous people or fictional characters but we all have our own hero’s for us it’s past family members who we all see as hero’s knowing they worked hard to create a secure future for the following generations. I will be forever proud of my heritage and feel blessed to come from a long line of strong hard working beautiful souls. On what would be Eveline’s 105th birthday (Ian’s mum) and the 9th anniversary of losing Kathleen (Susan’s mum) we are happy to call them our hero’s and remember them fondly. Hope you enjoy this collection from the family album 🧡
