4.30 on Saturday morning, we work in silence, Malou is loading the loaves into the oven. I have an important role - keeping out of the way. It's the last stage in the 24 hour process and we can tell that the loaves will be great. I print out the final version of the delivery schedule and prepare the paper bags, labelling them with the orders. By 6.00am I am ready to set off into the country lanes deep into rural Norfolk. Many of you will have heard that, after three wretched years of wrestling with planners, we were issued with Stop Notices and an Enforcement Notice by the Broads Authority. We respect the rules and have obeyed the orders but we also reserve the right to continue to search for ways to lawfully operate our beautiful and hugely popular artisan bakery. With legal advice we are in discussion with the BA regarding producing baked goods in small volumes from our home kitchen. If this fails we do have the use of a commercial kitchen (needing much work and equipment) 15mins drive away. We are not allowed collection from our home but the Big Shop on Womack Staithe have kindly offered a pick-up arrangement for pre-orders (payment in cash or direct to bank at the moment). Pre-ordering will be available for bread and pastries on a 48 hour notice for the following products: Sourdough Loaves (Fridays only), Crusty Cob Loaf, Bloomer, Portuguese Tarts (6), Chocolate Brownies, Cookies. Other products from our range may be available on application.
In addition we do a home delivery round to 13 surrounding villages for our Saturday Sourdough and Croissants. Please enquire for details.

A very inspiring customer this morning. He had a heart transplant in 2014 at Royal Papworth. He has sInce competed in transplant sports, most recently in Perth, Australia. When the going gets tough, it only takes a visit from an amazing customer to lift our mood. One such dropped by this morning and I was instantly struck by her self-declared charity shop outfit. I plucked up the courage to ask for a picture for our page and she willingly consented. So thank you New Hampshire (now living on Canvey Island) lady, you made our day.

Some entertainment for you today. In addition to being passionate about baking, I am also a massive coffee fan. When I visited Melbourne a few years ago I traipsed the streets in search of a robotic barista I had heard about. Eventually I found it but the shop had closed down. On this recent visit my daughter took me to a mall where the robot now lives. The coffee machine at the heart of it is exactly the same as my own, a La Marzocco GS3. We just had to give it a try. I have to say the coffee was undrinkable but the experience was fun. Human baristas need not worry.
