⚡ Aluminum vs Copper Wiring — What’s the Difference? ⚡

When it comes to electrical wiring in your home, the material matters more than most people realize. Here’s a quick breakdown:

🔶 Copper Wiring
✅ Stronger and more durable
✅ Better conductor of electricity
✅ Less likely to loosen or overheat
✅ Long lifespan with fewer risks
❌ Higher cost

🔷 Aluminum Wiring (common in homes built 1965–1975)
✅ Cheaper material
❌ Expands and contracts more than copper
❌ Higher risk of loose connections
❌ More prone to overheating and fire hazards if not properly maintained

🚨 Why it matters:
Homes with aluminum wiring can be perfectly safe if properly upgraded with approved connectors (COPALUM or AlumiConn) and inspected by a licensed electrician. Improper connections are where the danger comes from.

🚨 NEW Ontario Code Update – Effective January 1st 🚨
Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector Requirements Have Changed!

As of January 1st, Ontario’s Fire Code now requires MORE carbon monoxide detectors in homes to better protect families from this invisible, deadly gas.

💨 CO detectors are now required on EVERY level of your home if you have:
✔ A fuel-burning appliance (gas, oil, wood)
✔ A fireplace
✔ An attached garage

📍 Placement requirements:
✔ Outside each sleeping area (near bedrooms)
✔ On every storey of the home — even floors without bedrooms (including basements)

🔥 Smoke alarms are still required:
✔ On every level of the home
✔ Outside sleeping areas
✔ Replaced every 10 years

⚠️ Carbon monoxide is odorless and invisible — you will not know it’s there without an alarm.

🛠 Test alarms monthly
🔋 Change batteries yearly (unless sealed units)
🏠 Replace per manufacturer instructions

This is now mandatory by code, not optional.
