Is what I repeated to myself as I was thrust into an emergency cake situation.

When enquiring about a cake, this customer had accidentally confused the date of her son’s birthday, with the date of his party, which was the weekend prior. Easy mistake to make. So when I received an email asking for the collection details a week early, my heart sunk. The cake was not made. It wasn’t even a blip on my weekend radar.

Don’t panic. Despite coming off the back of a massive week preparing the cake tasting boxes, I had time. I was organised enough to have ordered the edible images from Dina Khaled weeks prior, but not so organised when it came to the acrylic toppers from Jana | Laser Cutting & Engraving | LRC. Thankfully Jana is a laser engraving wizard and literal God send so she was able to create them for me overnight.

Cake baked. Decorations prepared. Crisis averted.

This little boy would be able to share the coolest cake ever with his friends after all!

Moral of the story?

If you look after small businesses by supporting them, then there’s a high chance that they’ll look after you too. Ka-Chow!
