Messy Bakes is the passion of self-taught Cape Town baker Yolandi Heyneke, who recently turned a part-time endeavor into a full-time enterprise, creating sweet treats that taste as delicious as they look.


“I love nothing more than a cake that looks a little imperfect, icing dripping haphazardly down the sides, sugary sauces swizzled over, and an explosion of yummy goodies scattered on top. It’s

a counterpoint to the perfectionist in me, affording me freedom of expression and the opportunity to be unusually messy. This also means that every cake and cupcake series is unique – a once-off piece of edible art.”
