Randon Callagy Fact: We recently saw a couple of Callagy’s friends from Class Afloat. Karen brought along a copy of the yearbook and it was fun flipping through the pages with Callagy’s friends reminiscing about their experience. We got to the section in the book where it went through “so & so is most likely to …..” For Callagy it said – “most likely to find headphones in the middle of the ocean”. Both Sara and Charles laughed. After the ship sank and everyone had been in the life rafts for hours – Callagy reached over the side of the raft to grab what she thought were headphones. It ended up being a jellyfish and Callagy was stung. The reason why Sara and Charles laughed is that shortly after Callagy got stung by the jellyfish – someone in the raft said something along the lines of “OK who’s going to p*e on Callagy”. Maybe you had to be there, but I can just imagine what Callagy’s reaction was.

• Seeded Multigrain Sourdough Bread: $12 per loaf (I got the idea for this bread when traveling in Italy. Karen, Sloane, and I were biking in the Dolomites and had lunch at a rustic inn with a magnificent view of the mountains. They served fresh bread that had a unique flavor. After several inquiries and overcoming a language barrier, we were able to determine that the secret ingredient was blue fenugreek.)
• Gluten Free Seeded bread - $8 per loaf (back by popular demand – a small but hardy loaf)

Seeded multigrain Sourdough Bread (with an Italian flare)
Ingredients – Bread flour, organic wheat flour and organic spelt flour are blended with natural levain, water, oatmeal, cracked whole wheat, cracked rye, flax seeds, whole millet, steel cut oat grouts, corn meal, steel cut triticale, brown rice grits, honey, blue fenugreek, and sea salt.

Gluten free Seeded bread
Ingredients - gluten free rolled oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, toasted almonds, flax seeds, psyllium seed husks, chia seeds, and sea salt.

Random Callagy Fact: When Callagy was at Class Afloat, she made many great friends. We will be visiting a few this weekend in Montreal. We are so grateful that so many of Callagy’s friends stay in touch and keep her memory alive.

Random Callagy Fact: Callagy and I went on vacation to Eleuthera in the Bahamas during one of her Spring breaks from UVM. It was just the two of us and we had a great time. We found a dive charter at the far end of the island and made arrangements to go SCUBA diving. When we got to the boat, the Dive Master said that there were heavy winds and large waves and asked if we still wanted to go. Of course, we said yes and set off with a few other divers. The entire time out to the dive site, the Dive Master kept saying the waves are really big. There were some waves and one of the divers got seasick, but Callagy and I were totally fine. After the dive when we got off the boat, Callagy looked at me and said, “Those were not big waves – I’ve seen big waves and those were nothing”. I guess after you survive a shipwreck 300 miles offshore in heavy seas you know what a big wave looks like.

Random Callagy Fact: I recently saw a photograph of Callagy surfing, which reminded me of what a great athlete Callagy was and how she loved trying new things. Karen and Callagy were in Hawaii visiting a family friend during a school break. Callagy wanted to go surfing, so Karen and Callagy took some lessons at the local beach. The instructor was amazed that Callagy had no problem standing on the surfboard considering she never surfed before. I guess all that snowboarding in Vermont transitioned well to the waves.

Random Callagy Fact: This past weekend we went to Dartmouth College to see the Hyannis Sound, an a ca****la group from Cape Cod. One summer when Callagy was teaching sailing on Cape Cod, she and her friend Talia went to see the Hyannis Sound two or three times a week. We later found out the reason – Callagy had a crush on one of the singers. We really enjoyed the show this past weekend and I recommend seeing the Hyannis Sound if you ever get the chance.

Random Callagy Fact: This week I saw a Bernese Mountain Dog near a job site I was working at. It reminded me of the time we went on a family hike with our Berner – Millie. We hiked up to Sterling Pond and then over to the chair lifts at the top of Sterling Peak. Near the top, Millie ran off and found something to roll in. Millie came bounding back and went right up to Callagy, who immediately started to gag due to the odor. Callagy and Sloane ran off down the trail leaving Karen and I to clean Mille. We did the best we could but luckily it was a short car ride home.

Random Callagy Fact: We love taking family trips. One year we all went to Chile and spent some time hiking and biking in the Atacama Desert. The scenery and terrain are amazing. We also spent some time in Santiago and took a cooking class with a local chef. We went to an open market to select the food for our meal, which included Pisco Sours, ceviche, empanadas, and Leche Asada for dessert. I think Callagy and Sloane were most excited to learn how to make a Pisco Sour. Chile is an amazing country, and we hope to go back sometime soon.

I will be having another bread class – Sunday 3 May 2026. This will be an introduction to sourdough bread baking which will go over the basic process of cultivating a starter and baking a simple country style loaf. The class will be about 4 hours long. The cost will be $150 per person with a maximum of 10 people. Payment is required to hold your spot.

I will reach out to people that contact me to attend the class with payment information.

Since the past classes have been very popular, I will have a waiting list in case of last minute cancellations.
