Nevada Weatherization Program Helps Residents Lower Energy Bills

As summer temperatures continue to climb across Nevada, the Nevada Housing Division (NHD) is reminding income-qualified residents that applications are accepted year-round for its Weatherization Assistance Program. State of Nevada Housing Division

The free program helps eligible households reduce energy costs by improving a home's energy efficiency while making it safer and more comfortable to live in. Services may include insulation upgrades, air sealing, heating and cooling system improvements, and other energy-saving measures designed to lower monthly utility bills.

The announcement comes as Nevada continues to experience rising temperatures. According to Climate Central, Reno ranks as the fastest-warming city in the United States based on changes in average annual temperature since 1970, with Las Vegas ranking second. As temperatures rise, so do cooling costs, placing additional strain on both household budgets and the state's energy infrastructure.

Established in 1977, Nevada's Weatherization Assistance Program serves households earning at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Eligible homeowners and renters may qualify for weatherization services at no cost. Owners of qualifying rental properties may be responsible for a portion of certain improvement costs.

The program is administered through regional partners:

Community Services Agency serves Carson City and the counties of Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe.
HELP of Southern Nevada serves Las Vegas, Henderson, and southern rural Clark County.
Rural Nevada Development Corporation serves North Las Vegas, northern rural Clark County, and the counties of Elko, Esmeralda, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lincoln, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, and White Pine.

Nevada residents interested in learning more, checking eligibility, or applying for assistance can visit the Nevada Housing Division's Weatherization Assistance Program webpage.
