We have been in the business of baking for over 25 years and are backed by almost 100 years of baking experience. The local origin of the Bear ClawBakery can be traced back to1912, When Albert Hoeffer opened a bakery on 4th and MacDonald in downtown Richmond. Albert, and son Ben, continued the old world recipes and original ways of making traditional pastries, cakes and breads. For over 60 years their bakery provided the rapidly growing local community with popular, quality baked goods. That tradition has been carried on through the present at the Bear Claw Bakery in Pinole as Mike and Terri Hoeffer-Stott maintain the family heritage of using fresh, high-quality ingredients, the daily baking and providing personal service. Along with this past tradition is the continuing evolution of the Bear Claw Bakery products and services to reflect the changing tastes of its patrons and community. A new generation of Stotts are being trained to learn how to carry on the family baking tradition. along with sisters Lucie and Gracie help out parents Mike and Terri at the bakery. In fact, it is not uncommon to walk in and see up to three generations of the Hoeffer family working side by side at the bakery. We invite you to stop by the Bear Claw Bakery and enjoy a bit of the delicious quality and personal service that has been a family tradition for almost 100 years!

Hey Y'all! It's time for Talk about it where this week's item highlight is our UPSIDE-DOWN CAKES made in two amazing flavors; PINEAPPLE & BANANA NUT !
Both are individually sized cakes that are sweet, buttery, moist, and most importantly ridiculously good!

Left : We have the nostalgic Pineapple Upside-Down Cake with its iconic golden pineapple rings coated in a scotch glaze and a maraschino cherry nestled right in the center.

Right : The Banana Nut Upside-Down Cake, a nutty but yet sweet take on the classic cake ! With pieces of fresh bananas, crunchy walnuts, and coated in a butterscotch glaze, this is a version you just have to try!

Good Morning Y'all! Today we are going to rewind it back to because we have something special to share !

🐻🥐 44 YEARS OF celebrating everyone beloved BEAR CLAW BAKERY ! 🥐🐻
Forty. Four. YEARS. 🎉 That's 44 years of our well loved buttermilk coffee cakes, bear claws, and mornings that smell like heaven right here in Pinole!

But grab a seat, because the real story starts way back in 1912 when Albert Hoeffer fired up his ovens on 4th and MacDonald in downtown Richmond and brought old-world European baking to the East Bay. His son Ben picked up the rolling pin next, and the recipes (and the magic) never stopped.

Fast forward to 1982, and that same family love opened up shop right here as Bear Claw Bakery, with Mike and Terri Hoeffer-Stott behind the counter ever since.

And get this, they're not slowing down anytime soon! JJ, his wife, and children are ALL in the mix now too, which means it's totally normal to walk in and spot three generations of Stotts elbow-deep in dough at the same time. Talk about a family business!

Good morning, everyoneee! ☀️🐻 Even on a gloomy day such as today, there's always a bit of sunshine somewhere to be found!

And that ray of sunshine is a special shout-out to Ms. Suess and her Kindergarten Class of 2025-2026 from Collins Elementary School! They surprised us with this beautifully crafted work of donuts painted by each student!

One of our favorite traditions every year is welcoming local classes into Bear Claw for a behind-the-scenes bakery adventure. The students get to peek inside our kitchen, learn a little about what we do, and even roll up their sleeves to create some delicious pastries of their own. Watching their smiles, excitement, and silliness fill the bakery is one of the sweetest parts of why we do these trips!

Thank you for again , Ms. Suess and your beloved Kindergarten class for sharing your artwork with us which we have proudly displayed for everyone to see!
