A hash is an event where a lead runner (a hare) sets a trail of usually 3 to 5 miles with flour, chalk, toilet paper, etc. However, running is not required! The trail may go through city or wilderness, and there are often "false trails" to slow down the pack. The fast runners will be the first to the end of the bad trails and will mark the trail as such those following catch up. The goal for a good hare is to keep the group as close together as possible. There are stops along the trail where beverages are consumed. The goal is to make it to the end, where more beverages will likely be consumed.
