Hiya FB friends! We’re in need of a baker! This is an entry level position so if you (or someone you know) is passionate about baking, and motivated to get in here and learn from the ground up please contact us! We are looking for someone with a positive, “can do” attitude, who can follow instructions, work independently (once trained) and gets along with others! The Village Bakery and Cafe is in need of one (or two!) bakers with professional baking experience! Successful candidates will be available for early morning (6am) and weekend work. We need someone who is reliable, has strong attention to detail and a great work ethic. Extra credit points will be given to anyone with experience in laminating dough or decorating cakes (with buttercream).

Not quite six years ago, we were faced with a terrible balancing act: keeping a small business we're very proud of running while also keeping our employees safe. The threat has evolved; the impulse has not. We have employees working several jobs who will suffer if they lose a day's wages if we close in support of the general strike.

"You should pay them to stay home." I agree, and we would if we were a large business with high margins. But we don't take the name Village Bakery lightly. YOU are all our village. Our prices haven't risen as fast as costs have risen because you deserve your village. I stand by that decision but it means that every day the bakery must pay for itself.

After several sleepless nights, we have decided to support the general strike by making a 100% donation of all sales of these cookies to the Immigrant Defenders Law Center () who provide free legal services to Southern California immigrants. If you are honoring the general strike today, we support you and we'll see you soon.

Straight from our olive grove in Umbria, Italy (yes, we have an olive grove in Umbria, Italy!) our incredible, organic, extra virgin olive oil has arrived (no easy feat given the ridiculous tariff situation going on right now)!
From our over 100 year old trees, this is single origin oil, cold pressed from olives harvested by hand just a couple of months ago (October 20th, to be exact!). It doesn't get fresher, healthier or more delicious than this. The oil has a distinct, grassy, peppery taste full of polyphenols (that's the healthy stuff!) and is perfect for daily use.
Available in full or half liter cans with a beautiful special label (thanks to our pal Shepard Fairey!) this oil is an asset to every kitchen.
Supplies are limited so stop in soon and pick up a can for yourself and maybe one for a friend!

TODAY at 4pm is your deadline for getting that Thanksgiving order in! Turkey, sides, breads, cookies, cakes and (of course!) PIES!!

A few reminders of how we do Thanksgiving at The Village Bakery and Cafe:
-We'll be open for pick ups on Thanksgiving Day until noon (sharp!)
-Coffee and pastries (sweet & savory) will be available, however our kitchen will be closed for breakfast & lunch orders.
-We'll have extra pies available for purchase on a first come, first served basis on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You will NOT be able to call and reserve these pies...you must be in the bakery to claim one.
-We STRONGLY suggest that you place your order today to ensure that you get what you want/need for your Thanksgiving feast!
-Three ways to order: head over to our website to view the entire holiday menu and to place your order, Call us: 323.662.8600 or simply stop in today and place your order with one of our (definitely NOT stressed out) staff members!

Well hello there!!! It's been a minute (lots of them!) since I last posted here on FB (as you may have noticed!) My reason for jumping back on here today is twofold:

First, I want to see if this is still a viable spot to connect with our neighborhood. Are you still checking in with Facebook? Would you like updates from us here? We DO post regularly on Instagram and recently joined TikTok (late to THAT party, but hey...better late than never!!) so I do hope you've been checking in with us there. If you're out there and you'd like to see updates on this format, let me know!!!

Second, I want you all to know that this weekend The Village Bakery and Cafe will be celebrating our Sweet 16th Birthday!! Unbelievable, but true! We've been part of this neighborhood for 16 years now! Please stop in this Saturday or Sunday (or both!)--we're going to be sharing birthday cake with all of you and would love to see your faces!
