Thank you all for the love and support that you've shown us throughout this past year...it was a challenge (but, honestly, we've had bigger challenges in recent years, haven't we?!?) and we made it!! Onward & upward in 2023!
We're here all day today (until 4pm)...brave the rain and come on in for breakfast or lunch!
We'll be closed tomorrow (Jan. 1st) to relax and nurse our anticipated hangovers, but we'll be back at it bright and early Monday morning (Jan. 2nd). Normally the first couple of weeks of January are a bit slow around here--everyone has those pesky resolutions that usually revolve around food! Help us break that trend and plan on seeing us soon!
We love you all and are filled with gratitude and hope for the new year! Here's to an amazing year for us all filled with health, happiness, love and PEACE!
Have you ever seen "It's A Wonderful Life"? (Spoiler Alert!) At the end of the movie, all of George Bailey's friends rally around to pitch in and help him through a seemingly insurmountable problem...
Well, I felt like George Bailey all weekend as this incredible neighborhood--YOU!!!--rallied around me, my sweet bakery and my incredible staff to support us after our Saturday morning robbery.
I cannot thank you all enough. Your love for us was definitely felt and all we can say is that we love you all right back.
Now...I gotta get back to making pies (Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks!) and you all have to sit down and watch It's A Wonderful Life (either for the 1st or 100th time). ❤️
Gooooood morning Los Angeles! Well…big city life has gotten to us once again 🤬 Early this morning, right before our first bakers arrived, a couple of “gentlemen” broke through our back door, ransacked the bakery, broke into the office doors and, of course!, broke into our safe.
It would be easy to be defeated right now (and I had a hysterical, 10 minute “why us???” crying fit when we arrived on the scene) BUT…I refuse to let the bastards get me down.
If you could, I’d love for you to do two favors for me: First, take a look at the posted photos. If you have any idea of who these people are, please let us know. Second, if you are in the area please stop in, grab a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, or just say hi. Your presence here will be more appreciated than ever.
xx Barbara ❤️
It's Groundhog Day and we've got the cookies to prove it! Thank you to the incredible Melvin Robert for this shout out!!! Six more weeks of winter? Not so bad when you're in LA!
Hello, I'm Vaccinated! Are you??
We're a little confused about exactly what this week is going to bring...
As always, we'll be playing things safe and we hope that you will, too. Please join us for inside and outdoor dining, but for now please continue to wear a mask when entering the bakery and placing your order. We're thrilled to see your faces again and are looking forward to whatever this "new normal" is going to be. One thing's for sure...after the year that we all just had, we feel confident that we'll be able to meet any challenge thrown our way!
Sending you all loads of love! Barbara & the entire staff of The Village Bakery and Cafe.
Rollin' into the holiday weekend....
Tonight's dinner is Spaghetti & Meatballs. Do. Not. Miss. Out. Our chef, Erin, got in here early (earlier, actually) this morning to make these perfect meatballs. They've been simmering in tomato sauce all morning. Tonight's dinner also includes a traditional Caesar salad, amazing garlic bread and Italian wedding cookies. I'd recommend you opening a nice bottle of red for this meal (if you partake). I promise you, you will love this! Give us a call (323.662.8600) to place your order!
Good morning! If you're looking for a meal to take the winter chill off of your bones we've got just the ticket in our "grab & go" case: Chicken Pot Pies! Take one home, pop it in the oven for about 40 minutes and you'll have a pot pie topped with the flakiest pastry in town! We also have spinach & 3 cheese lasagna available today and a new (and, I think) exciting item: Pizza Kits! Many of you have been buying our pizza dough over the past year, so you can attest to how amazing it is! We've packaged the dough up with our kale-basil pesto, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and sun dried tomatoes--it's so easy to put it all together to bake up a delicious pie for your family (super fun if you get the kids involved in this project, too).
If you're thinking about food for the weekend (am I the only one who thinks that far in advance?) here's what we have planned:
Friday (1/29): Organic, buttermilk fried chicken served with mashed potatoes, collard greens and mini apple pies (little 2-3 bite pies that are a perfect ending for your meal!). Dinner for two is $30 and for four is $58
Saturday (1/30): Arroz con pollo served with mini chili relleno, organic greens salad and Mexican chocolate cookies. Dinner for two is $36 and for four is $68
Sunday (1/31): Pot Roast Sunday Supper served with shaved fennel & arugula salad with parmesan & citrus vinaigrette, demi-baguette and brownies (no nut!) for dessert. Dinner for two is $36 and dinner for four is $68
Call us at 323.662.8600 to place your orders or go to our TOCK site (https://www.exploretock.com/thevillagebakeryandcafe/) to order safely and quickly. Remember: we'll deliver to you if you are within 5 miles of the bakery (as it's supposed to rain all weekend, this might be a great option!)
Stay safe out there! Wear your masks, keep your distance and wash your hands!
We're switching gears from Fall to Winter...
Good morning and welcome to a new weekend!
Tonight's meal is our super popular Turkey Meatloaf. We're serving it today with creamy mashed potatoes, green beans, demi-baguette & cookies.
Sunday Supper is Chicken Cacciatore that we're serving with an organic greens salad, demi-baguette & Italian Wedding Cookies.
Both today and tomorrow's meals can be ordered either by calling us (323.662.8600) or by going directly to TOCK (https://www.exploretock.com/thevillagebakeryandcafe)
We're still selling our Ruth Bader Ginsberg cookies and the response has been overwhelming. We have a very small bakery staff right now and we've all been working around the clock to make these beauties. I have to say, even though we've been working super hard, it's been pleasurable. We're all working for a good cause -- 100% of the proceeds are going to ActBlue to help support her final wishes to not be replaced until after the election. If you want cookies, you'll need to give us a call to place your order. Tomorrow is the last day we'll be offering them and I'll have a final grand total for you all on Monday morning! I can't wait to see how much we've raised!
If you're not able to make it in to grab a cookie or two, please consider making a donation to ActBlue if you can. Also, please, please please think about your vote--WHERE will you be voting? WHEN will you be voting? You probably know who you're voting for in the Presidential race, but be sure to educate yourself on all of the other races and issues on the ballot! If you have a chance, talk to your friends and make sure they are voting! VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!
Here's a very satisfying little video of our head baker, Georgia, putting the final touches on her rainbow cake...
Good morning and welcome to a brand new month! We WILL be open this Saturday (the 4th of July!) and we WILL be having special cookies (and plates!) flag cakes, BBQ Beef Brisket and lots of great food for your celebrations.
Today's family meal is Mom's Meatloaf and we're serving it with mashed potatoes, green beans, bread & cookies. This is a big, delicious, comforting meal. Not sure about you, but I could use a bit of comfort right now!
Tomorrow we have Tortilla Espanola and we're serving it with roasted corn with manchego cheese, a cucumber salad, bread & cookies.
Everything is available for pre-order! Give us a call at 323.662.8600!
Finally, we are officially half way through this year (although it seems like 12 years since January 2020)...let's try to make it through the next 6 months with health! Wear your masks!
