We’ve got another fève story for you, this one involves the fire and its anniversary. These are our fèves from last year. They were also made to measure by Darcy’s mom, and being so tiny, were baking away in her small test kiln in her backyard studio the night of the 7th- Big Wind Night. With the massive orange flames blooming and blazing across town, yet visible from our kitchen window, Ronnie sat on our couch lamenting around 10 pm when the electricity went down, her one major concern : that the darn power outage had stopped her kiln, prematurely arresting the firing of the charms Guillaume needed for his galettes, which he was going to begin making for pre-orders the next day. “Only a half hour left on the firing!!!!, how could they do it!!” she bemoaned. Oh, what were we to do? 🙃 Just one of those mini stories belonging to the variety “poignant irony” of which there are so many in the fire saga. How could she know she would lose literally everything, her home, all her belongings from her life and generations’ past, in the next 12 hours? And, in fact, the fèves survived, about as cooked as they needed to be. Protected by their small cement kiln-box, they were discovered and carried away from an otherwise ghastly scene. They are the only perfectly surviving elements of the four structure, two home property. Anyway, just kind of funny. We are VERY glad to be finally making the galettes. But… we ultimately decided against using these in them.
And if we can say it again, one year ago (tomorrow), it felt really impossible to Guillaume that he would ever bake again for this community. Thank you for being with us here. Sending you all a lot of love.
