Spudnuts at their finest.
Johnny O’s Spundnuts® is rocking its four year stint in Cache Valley, so much so that we’ve recently opened a store in Layton, Utah, but spudnuts have been a popular treat since the 1950s. In the early 1940s, Al and Bob Pelton opened a shop in Salt Lake City, Utah that sold potato-flour based doughnuts, adapting a recipe that Bob had picked up in Germany after spending some time as a baker for the United States Navy. They sold their nick-named “spudnuts” on the streets and door to door until the treat sparked a phenomenon of popularity.
By the late 1940s, there were over 200 spudnut shops across the country. Though the Pelton’s chain of spudnuts fell in popularity and success by the mid 1960s, Johnny O’s has been able to rein in that nostalgia surrounding the once-revolutionary potato doughnut and establish a new era of spudnut perfection.
We value the rich taste of authentic Spudnuts. Our Spudnuts are light and fluffy on the inside with a perfectly crisp, glazed outside that is sure to make your mouth water. We hand mix, cut, and fry our Spudnuts daily to ensure freshness and maximize flavor.
We also feature local favorite Caffe Ibis Coffee. Whether you want to grab a Spudnut and your favorite Caffe Ibis brew on your way to work, or stop by for an afternoon Spudnut a la mode, Johnny O’s is ready to serve up something delicious.
