Let’s talk engagement sessions!!
You’re newly engaged and you’re starting to plan your engagement session with your wedding photographer. First of all; exciting!!! But then you begin thinking about actually getting your photos taken and get a little anxious about the process. This is all new to you and I totally get it! I hear this more often than not from my clients and that’s okay!
When I’m chatting with my couples about their session, I try to highlight a few key points to help ease the nerves.
• Mindset
- Starting off with a biggie but it’s so so so important. Arrive to the session believing that you will have fun, that the photos will be everything you’ve hoped for, and that you both look amazing in the outfits you’ve chosen! (I’m also happy to help with any outfit advice) It also helps to focus just on your partner and less on me, that helps keep your mind on them. & don’t worry, I’ll help to ease you into this if you need help.
• Location
- Where you choose to have your session can be as simple as a beach, field etc OR as involved as where you got engaged, a place you visit together regularly, a favorite restaurant / coffee shop / bar / store - literally anywhere with some type of sentimental value to you and I’m there! This helps to bring some type of familiarity to your session so not everything is new and unknown.
• Activity
- Picking an activity to do during your session; either for part of it or the entirety, is beneficial in that you have something to focus on, with your partner who you are already comfortable with, and you’re almost immediately at ease. Making me and the sound of my camera shutter simple background noise. This activity can be literally anything that resonates with you! Riding bikes, grabbing coffee, arcade games, a picnic on the park, reading in the library, you name it!
• Have fun!!
- This may seem like a no brainer but allow yourselves to actually have fun in the session! You’re celebrating a huge milestone with your loved one and that is so incredible! So run like little kids again, chase the seagulls (nicely) on the beach, and kiss like no one is watching (except me but hey, that’s my job)
