It's art week at Sarkozy Bakery! There's a lot to describe and some important details for this week! So read on:
First of all Art Hop is this Friday and we'll be staying open late to host the wonderfully skilled, Melody Allen!
Melody's show is focusing on "play" as demonstrated through her incredible illustrations of birds. A combination of pastels, and mixed media collage, every one of these pieces is striking with a distinctly fun nature.
The show is this Friday, May 1st (tomorrow!) from 5-8pm and will also feature the inimitable Tom Duffield on keys! As always we'll have the customary complimentary art hop snacks and booze. Don't get too wild though, this isn't Up and Under (rip). And if you're significantly hungry we'll be serving up pretzel plates and pizzas!
Also, we had the pleasure to be invited to the Kalamazoo Institute of Art for a "food as art" reception in conjunction with Heidi Weiss's talk of her mural, "(Looking For) A Soft Place to Land."
Heidi's work is incredible and her focus on collaboration in her work truly resonated with us at the bakery. It's easy and simple to give one person all the credit, whether it's Judy or me, but the reality is there's nearly two dozen of us at the bakery that work together every day to make this all possible. Whether it's a loaf of sourdough, an almond croissant, or two amazing custom desserts for a one-off event.
Bakers (and managers (and friends)), Julia Ftacek and Rachel Meszaros put together a rhubarb and lemon tart garnished with a tempered white chocolate feather as well as a petit four based off our Rigo Jansci cake decorated with a dandelion seed. Both were delicious and really evoked Heidi Weiss's and Chafe Hensley's mural.
It's been a wonderful week of art and birds and baking! Looking forward to this weekend.
