There are really two decisions hiding inside every custom cake order: what do you want it to look like, and what do you want to eat?

For Camille’s engagement cake, the outside was a vintage heart covered in all that beautiful piping. Inside, she chose brown butter cake with brown butter buttercream filling.

I love that combination because the flavor wasn’t an afterthought. The cake underneath all the decorating got just as much attention as the finished design.

Another Hutto Olde Tyme Days in the books! 🦛🤍

Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by the Happy Hippo booth on Saturday! Whether you picked up something sweet, came over to say hi, or just stopped to see what I had, I loved getting to visit with you.

One of my favorite parts of doing these markets is getting to meet the people who support my little bakery in person. It really does mean a lot!

And a big thank you to everyone who helped make Olde Tyme Days happen. It was a fun day to be out celebrating Hutto!

One thing I like about themed cakes is figuring out how much of the theme the cake actually needs. 🌿

For Vivian’s Wild One baby shower cake, I didn’t want every inch covered in animals. Instead, I let the leaves to do the talking. I used different shades and textures of green to create the little jungle around them, and let a few sweet animal details do the rest.

It still feels very “Wild One,” but it also feels like a pretty baby shower cake.

Inside was funfetti cake with vanilla buttercream.

Want to try a Happy Hippo cake without ordering a whole cake? 👀

I’m bringing CAKE SLICES to Hutto Olde Tyme Days THIS Saturday!

This is my first time bringing fully layered cake slices to a market, and I’ll have three flavors:

🍋 Lemon
🍪 Cookie Butter
🤎 Brown Butter

And cake definitely isn’t the only thing coming with me. I’m also planning to have:

✨ Brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts
🥧 Honey bourbon pecan pies (plus the pecanless version)
🍪 Cookies
🍑 Jams
🥃 Homemade Vanilla Extract
🍌 Banana bread slices
…and maybe another surprise or two if I have enough time. 😂

I’ll be at Hutto Olde Tyme Days this Saturday, October 10, so come find the Happy Hippo booth, say hi, and grab something sweet!

Mallori chose brown butter cake with vanilla frosting for her birthday and sent me one of my own past cakes as her design reference. I had such a good time recreating it for her, right down to the little frosting bows!

That’s a fun part of ordering a custom cake: bringing together a look you love and flavors you’re actually looking forward to eating.
