As many of you know, I am a chemist for a pharmaceutical company by day and a baker by night. I keep up with a lot of experimental studies not only within my company but within the pharmaceutical space. The news from Teva this morning is where my two worlds collide.

TEV-408 is an injection of an antibody that blocks IL-15. IL-15 is a molecule within our bodies that causes the intestinal issues when gluten has been eaten on celiac patients. Teva’s Phase 2a results show such positive results of the injection. The injection lasts for 6 weeks and during the study, the average trial subject showed a lymphocyte level of 0.37 while the placebo group (no injection) showed a lymphocyte level of 27.60 while eating gluten every day during the study.

Not only is this an amazing discovery for the pharmaceutical world, but it gives celiac patients hope at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. I am truly intrigued to see additional studies coming out of Teva!

But for now, I will have all your GF treat and bread needs covered this Sunday Rice Village Farmers Market with a very special new menu item! Stop by and see me!
