Often times, the success of an outing can come down to the little things. I’m talking about matters beyond just having lines and assorted bait presentations ready before boarding. Today’s charter was no exception. Before my crew arrived, I scoped out a couple hot locations. And felt certain the action would still be happening once we arrived. And it was. All in all, that was one of the fastest, action paced two hour trip kids/beginners trips I’ve had for this time of year. So fast, I didn’t have time to take a photo until it was over.

Often times, so it seems, anglers give black drum a bad rap as table fare. Most undeserving term I’ve heard is “trash fish.” In the past, I’ve heard the following species referred to as the same: flounder, sheepshead, red fish, mullet, and amberjack. Well, I’m not here to change anyone’s mind. Rather, I encourage everybody to throw them back!

Didn’t take long after reading the signs. Couple casts into productive waters, and then the drag was singing. His son got hooked up as well, but the hook broke. Excitement and heartbreak, the latter of the two was replaced as he wound up catching the most fish!

Always keep the proper perspective and be thankful. Fortunately, I was able to get the video done while feeling misty eyed.
