I feel like everyone was talking about and going to see Backrooms this summer but now I’m thinking they were mostly in their 30s or younger. I only went to take my son and his friend but it was pretty great. Super creepy. If you saw it, this cake will make sense. If not, you’ll be confused but hopefully still find it creepy. I’ve attached some inspiration images from the movie for context. Along with Backrooms, my friends’ son also likes the show, Yellowjackets, and 90s grunge so I personalized the mural for him a bit. Thinking I should have done a second layer of face color — I started the outlines before I realized it was fading and was afraid to add more. We’ll just say that Pirate Clark is washed out by the unflattering fluorescent lighting of the backrooms 😅. I hope you like it, B!! Happy birthday!!

I’m off for the rest of the month!! Finally getting out of town for a bit…I just wish it wasn’t to take our sweetie back to college 😭. I’ll be ready to work after Labor Day so if you need anything, please be in touch!! I’ll still be checking emails! Have a fantastic rest of the summer!! ❤️☀️

I had to move out of my usual photo spot to accommodate our enormous barn/yard sale yesterday 😮‍💨. We were running around and it was outrageously hot and the cake was SWEATING but it all came together in the end. So happy I could make this! It’s an anniversary cake for a super awesome customer. She did not have to but she thought to bring me a little trinket from the Philippines and I love it so much. My friend, Apollo, from the bachelor’s program at the Culinary would always joke about “the Filipino connection”. It is real and it got us through many a group project 😅. Thank you so much!!! Lovely to see you yesterday and congratulations on your anniversary!!

I rarely get requests for a very specific design. Usually I’m given a mashup of inspiration from which I pull my favorite design elements. This time, however, I was asked to make a very specific cake. Because polka dots + a shell border sort of belong to the baking world’s collective intellectual property, it felt fine to say yes (although I did feel compelled to pipe the border differently). It’s adorable and I hope it’s a good match!! The birthday boy’s family made little picks with the baby’s face on it 🥹. So cute! I hope I get to see pictures later. When I get cake updates after the party, it’s honestly my favorite thing. Have a wonderful first birthday!!! ❤️

If you have special characters/toys that you would love to see on top of a cake, I am always up for that — as long as you can get them to me ahead of time and the toys fit the size cake you’re ordering. These two little canine superheroes look really cute up there 💛🐾. Happiest birthdays to the birthday girls in this sweet family! Hope you have the best time celebrating!! 🥳

The Exeter Historical Society is hosting a fundraiser tonight. Proceeds will be used to upgrade exhibits. These are for a themed table inspired by and the amazing Mrs Banks from Mary Poppins. I mulled over this theme for a while and finally decided to make the tops of the cupcakes into ribbon rosettes/badges/pins — it fits the shape better than a sash. I wondered if I could make the “fabric” out of fondant but it just felt too bulky. Buttercream piped with two different ruffle tips turned out really cute and kept the fondant to a minimum. I took some artistic license and toned down the vibrant purple and gold a bit. My 16 year old stopped by to see what I was working on and immediately understood my vision so I’ll take that as a win. Suffragette slogan badges probably feel quaint in 2026, but please know there are powerful people in the United States TODAY who truly believe that women should not have the right to vote and are working very hard to make that happen. Stay informed. Use your voice. Vote 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I made maybe 10 pies for the wrestling banquet this past spring but only did 1 key lime because I didn’t think many people would want it. Well the joke was on me because it was the first to go. I think it’s the meringue. Who doesn’t love toasted meringue?? A friend at the banquet ordered 2 pies for her husband’s birthday and I’m so happy he can cut as big a slice as he wants instead of having to share tiny slices with a bunch of hungry teenagers 😅. Have the best birthday!!!

I got the best compliment ever from one of my customers. She wrote and said, “I have no upcoming occasion, but I am craving one of your cakes.” 🥹❤️ It made me so happy, I can’t even tell you. She requested fondant and something “soft, fancy and pretty” so I did some draped fondant on the outside in a very pale mint green. Kept the rest simple. When I design a cake, it’s very much a collaboration and a mingling of visions but occasionally I have someone who just lets me go for it and it’s a welcome opportunity to try something different. I think it’s great. So happy to do this for you!! Enjoy!!

I had one last peony in my garden that I was saving for this cake but realized it was enormous and wouldn’t have left room on top for anything else. I’ve made the same birthday cake for this family many times, but I want it to feel different and special every year. No two are alike and I love that. Happiest birthday to you!!! Looks like it was a lovely weekend!! ❤️🍓

Vanilla cake soaked with lemon syrup and filled with lemon cream, roasted strawberry mousse and roasted strawberry jam. Buttercream tinted and flavored with freeze dried strawberries.

Wasn’t sure I’d be able to write something on a cupcake, but I wanted to do at least one super custom treat for our friend and neighbor. He’s an amazing kid/young man and we’re so excited and happy for him. On Seinfeld, “the summer of George” was supposed to be about George being as lazy as possible and spending the entire summer in his jams. When I’m thinking about “the summer of Jen” I always interpret it as having the most fun and productive summer ever 😅. Hopefully for B, it will be a combination of the two. Enjoy your time off! You deserve it! Have as much fun as possible!! Congratulations! 💙🖤
