New treat recipe for your pups!
New dog treat recipe!
Our human has noticed that a lot of dog treats have been adding more filler ingredients, and some that were sourced & made in the USA are now coming from other places, plus there have never been enough laws regarding pet products, so she prefers to either make our treats or give us human grade stuff. She knows a lot of people are having a tough time right now, so she's been experimenting with inexpensive treat ideas, and last night's was a huge hit! 7 out of 7 dogs approved, and even 1 cat loved them! For $4.66, you can make 70-140 treats depending on how small you need them.
Here's the recipe for Turkey Granola Bars:
1) Mash up 1 lb ground turkey (festive brand is $1.98) in a big bowl.
2) Little by little, mix in quick oats (18 oz great value brand is $2.66 - you'll use the entire thing). Add a bit of hot water each time you add oats so they'll soften and will make it easier to incorporate them into the turkey. Once you've added all the oats, let it sit a couple minutes to let the water soak in.
3) Line a big cookie sheet with parchment paper & let the edges hang over the rim a bit. Add the turkey oat mixture and mash it with a big spoon or your hands so it's flat & fills the cookie sheet completely. Score them with a knife (photo in comments) to the size you like.
4) Bake at 325°F for an hour, or until bars are still soft but crunchy on the top.
5) Let it cool then cut them apart. You can store them in the refrigerator or freezer.
You can add ground beef instead, or a little smooth peanut butter if your dogs prefer that :)
Other human-grade treats that 7/7 dogs approve: low ingredient fish sticks (we like Gorton's), frozen cooked shrimp, no sodium chicken broth pupsicles, dehydrated chicken pieces, & peanut butter in a kong toy (make sure it's low ingredient, no xylitol PB). Leo & I love dehydrated sweet potato slices, but unfortunately no one else does. None of us like carrot sticks. Every dog has different tastes of course!
