I’m not going to sugarcoat it; this is a really tough video for me to make, and a post I never wanted to have to write.
If you’ve been following our journey, you know how incredibly excited we were to expand Burning Acre with our new sandwich shop, bakery, and retail h**p license. Unfortunately, due to some drastic new regulatory changes hitting our industry, our plans have had to completely change.
To give you some perspective, under the current rules, it costs us $750 a year to manufacture, distribute, and run our retail shop. Under the new laws, that annual cost is skyrocketing to over $90,000 between new licensing fees, an mandatory $25,000 annual bond cost, and increased testing fees. Sadly, these laws feel like they were designed to stamp out small, family-owned businesses like ours.
Because of this impasse, we have had to make some incredibly difficult decisions to keep Burning Acre alive:
❌ We will no longer be opening the sandwich shop or bakery.
❌ We will be closing our retail operations in Columbia, TN. 🚚 We are relocating our retail operations to Murphy, North Carolina.
Our last day open in Columbia will be June 30th.
Columbia, we have absolutely loved being a part of this community for the last five years. I know so many of you personally, and seeing you walk through our doors since our very first week has meant the world to me. You guys are the definition of ride-or-die customers, and our hearts are truly broken to have to say goodbye to this location.
🗓️ What Happens Next:
Stock Up Now: We are launching some last-minute deals in-store between now and June 30th to make sure you can stock up on your favorites. Come by and see us!
July 1st and Beyond: We are actively working on ways to keep our products available in Tennessee through other channels starting July 1st.
