Throwback to the cake that started it all. 11 years ago ... my son's Star Wars themed cake with working volcano. That thing was a beast: 4 layers, half sheet cake that fed over 100 people. We had leftover cake for DAYS!

Okay, wow, it’s been a hot minute (2 years, actually) since I made a cake for someone so I’m a bit rusty and out of practice. Luckily my good friend let me whip up something fairly easy for her son’s 16th birthday.

This is a local (somewhat local at 13 miles North of me) baker I follow since moving to Texas. $800+ plus the $60 delivery fee sounds about right! What do you guys think?

My son made amazing gooey, fudgy brownies last week! They inspired my daughter to make cupcakes with sprinkles then I remembered the moving company threw out all of my food colors and sprinkles! She made due and made delicious red velvet ones (minus the red dye). I hope their interest in baking flourishes plus the perks of having someone bake for me is a win! :-)

What does this cake artist do for her own birthday? Have another talented cake artist make my cake, of course (after all, no stress allowed on your birthday, right?)!

This time I ordered a chocolate cake with coffee Swiss Meringue buttercream. I think it’s beautiful. What do you think?
