Jamillah fell in love with the immediate gratification she got from people eating her baked goods. We specialize in cakes for all occasions, from just waking up to weddings. We do not have a retail shop to pull from

I went to San Antonio and I immersed myself in the flavors, the color, the rhythm of it all.

From Market Square to local shops, I was drawn to bold spices, dried chiles, rich chocolate, and warm Mexican vanilla.

I brought back ingredients and inspiration.

And this spiced chocolate bread pudding is what it became.

Let me tell you about the woman who inspired the March box.

My great-grandmother was the cake person in our family. She’d bake from scratch, let us lick the bowl, then, after we’d run her ragged all day, she’d sit down with her beer and her s***f and just rest.

She filled her cup first. The overflow is what we got.

I thought about her a lot while I built the March box. About how she knew something we’re all still learning: rest isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. So March is about self care and the soft life.

I’m in San Antonio right now, practicing what she taught me. Resting before the busy season. Filling my cup so I can pour into these boxes and into you from overflow, not from empty.

March is Women’s History Month, and The Soft Life is my love letter to her. And to every woman learning that softness isn’t weakness.

Ten years. 🥂

Looking back, I came out the gate swinging. My obsession with flavor was already there… wrapped in brown paper bags and tied with jute twine. One thing was certain: I wasn’t interested in “ordinary.”

That part hasn’t changed…and may never.

This month’s Sweet Gestures box feels like a full-circle moment. It’s a return to those roots…simple on the outside, and deeply intentional on the inside. We’re leaning into Black history through flavors that are balanced, layered, and made to be savored:

This was Thanksgiving.
1,200 pies. For the Amazon staff.
And the moment I stopped waiting to feel “ready” and just moved.

I didn’t have everything figured out. I didn’t have the perfect plan. I just had a yes… and a willingness to solve the next problem as it showed up.

That decision quietly saved me.
It saved my confidence.
It saved me from overthinking myself into stillness.

It reminded me that action creates clarity (not the other way around).
