The Beauty of Cuba, / La Jara , NM is the colors of the landscape, the Blues greens, reds and it combination of these colors while you sit in the porch, you cam see the sun rise and the sunsets. At a distance you hear a truck drive into town or the herd of Elk feeling at home grazing. Out on the field Tha rooster crowing and the dog barking. Sometime you just need to runaway to mom and dad's house remind yourself where you came from. The best way to get rid of the everyday stress.

The Community starts with its peoples who have supported this community to share its beauty with others. Our families have ties to 1700's and before. The 1800 share many families who settled the community and some of the surrounding areas. Sheepherding, the Copper mines. Even a rail road that went extinct, The 1900 Our families had Farming. Small businesses opened. One room school, to what is now Cuba Independent Schools.
Duke City Lumber Company employed our locals. The Forest service , BLM. Many of our Men an women from this community served and continue serve in the military sevices, Thank you to of you. Just a small glimpse of growth that created the beauty of Cuba, back in the day.

When driving through Cuba, what is the River you cross when you pass the Community of San Ysidro, did see Round Mountian. On the west Side. Or the semi Window formed along the side of the road.made by am rock and mesa formation. You cant miss our fisherman welcome traffic he sits on the hill. The "T" where you can take a ride on old 44. Come around the bend one of an older house still stand as you drive in to Cuba what is the speed limit. You know you are leaving Cuba when you see???. And you can speed up to Cuba has some great site. If dont find them turn around go south try agian but when you pass San Ysidro one Pueblo can be seen as you drive by What name is . And ad you ome down the hill before you get to Bernalillo we have a president that sleeps on the tip of the mouuntian who is he.
Mom and dad always had us find the beauty that surrounds us.

Good morning Beautiful sunny brisk Saturday.
Driving North, at a distance you can See Cabezon Peak. You drive past the ruins of warm spring just coming down the hill on 550 the turn off sign to San Luis is visible. When you turn and follow the two lane highway. You come arround the bend to the community of San Luis., as you drive through you see the peak. At the bottom is the historic ruins of the, town Cabezon. Where the pavement ends is. ( Some call it cabezon de los Montoya. The landscape and the beauty of the different shades of colors of the earth surrouned by the vast and various hills and rock mountian peaks there ia the historic ruins of Guadalup and Casa Salasar ,now family owned ranches. That single dirt road curves though the mountians with fences on some sides with gates locked. you can see Tohajillie, and Marquez. Keeping rule number one respect the Ranch owner and back up turn around and head back.to 550, go North to Cuba, where you can pick a restraunt for a coffee or tee break.

The quietness outside, brings calm to the body and mind , the spirit of the soul can be felt as you sit outside on the porch deck. The moon shines down and wild Coyote cross the road howls on its way to its destination. Close by you hear the cricket loud and clear. The beauty of the quietness relaxes you as you notice a falling star ,

When you are from a small community Like Cuba, it's beauty is all the small towns that our ancestors built, some of which are ghost towns but are still recognized by thier descendents. We have Cabezon, San Luis, Torreon, Tijera Tinian Crownpoint,, Vegas DE la China, Chiwille; La Ventana, San Pedro, San Miguel ,Gonzalitos, Lagunitas, Los Pinos, Vallecito, Naciemento, Rito de Leche, Ojo Enicino , Councilors, lower La Jara, Upper La Jara, San Jose, Regina, Lindrith , Llaves, some are not mentioned, but can be included, some have family connections others have work connections, we leave no community out. They share history they share the beauty of thier own landscape, making NM vast and beautiful.

Driving from Alb. To CUBA/ LA JARA.
OLD 44, now 550. From two lanes to four lanes. Crossing over the Rio Grande in Bernalillo , driving along side the Rio Puerco, over a small bridge we cross the Rio San Jose. Then you cross over the Rio Puerco as you continue north. Make a quick right turns on to Los PInos. Drive along the Acequia, which connects to the mouth of the San Pedro Peeks, where you see it divert to Canyon de La Jara and to Gregorio.Lake. beautiful Trails to Hike. From a drive to a hike ..
Always come prepared. Always let family and friends know where you headed. Enjoy the expierence.
